I have some questions regarding a sword I ran into online. The pictures are below and my concerns with the sword are:

1. The Logo on the guard is unknown to me and I couldn't find another one like it after researching it

2. The tip of the blade seems to be different from the other navy swords, it seems to be too small for a combat blade but the tip and style is different from similar style swords.

3. The style of the guard is also different from other ones in Dawson's book.

Does anyone know anything about this style of sword? Any help is greatly appreciated. I couldn't find one like it from Dawson's book which makes me believe it is fishy.

Found it. Thank you so much for your help. Korean Occupational Sword it is :)

It's in 2nd Dawson book.

It's a occupational sword. Not fishy.

I'll let you have another look before I give the answer

Hamish, I won't say yet, since you're waiting, but Dawson says the handgrip is always white. Is this like everything else - variations exist?

Ha! Didn't see Kenny's reply before I posted.

And just for those without the book, Dawson says the bare backstrap is of the "Hannin" rank. Hannin were the NCO equivilent of the Gunzoku, the civilian branch of the military. They wore uniforms but were civilians doing work such as diplomats, teachers (Takayama was a Gunzoku), etc and had distinctive rank/patches.
