Terminology request

Recommended Posts

G'day all,

I noticed on the Aoi-Art site here: http://www.aoi-art.com/sword/wakizashi/08059.html the word 'Hamaguriha'. Its explained as 'clam shell shape' but what does this mean - is it similar to hiraniku? Very meaty etc?

Thanks for any help, searches proved useless so far. Not intersted in purchasing the blade, just learning the terminology.

Cheers,

Don't know the answer for sure, but if you separate it into hamaguri and 'ha'..hamaguri is a clam and ha is of course the cutting edge. So that would tell me that the ha is clam shell shaped, and I would assume does mean it has niku.
