Turtle Posted July 30, 2019 Report Posted July 30, 2019 Hello , I am new on here, I am just learning but have had an interest in the art of the Japanese sword and the art of the tsuba . I have included a photo without flash to try to show the iron 's natural patina, the sharper images are using a flash which has made them look darker. The shape is oval , the height is 67 mm , width 60mm , nakago ana 28mm thickness 5mm It has some 'bones' around the outside . I would be grateful for any ideas as to which era this might be. Quote
MauroP Posted August 3, 2019 Report Posted August 3, 2019 Hi "Turtle", a small dimension tsuba with prominent tekkotsu, could be Kanayama (later refurbished for a gunto mount) Mauro 1 Quote
Henry Wilson Posted August 3, 2019 Report Posted August 3, 2019 Kanayam yes, but I was also think Owari sukashi. The symmetric-ish designs makes me think so. 1 Quote
Curran Posted August 8, 2019 Report Posted August 8, 2019 Third option, using older terminology not seen in newer books. You can come across it in Tosogu Vol. 1 translated by Markus: "Kyoto Kanayama" Those made in or for Kyoto area that reflect the appreciation for Kanayama works. Often the sukashi is a bit more crowded in design and they more tekkotsu impregnated than earlier Owari area Kanayama. More Versace than Versace. 1 Quote
