Mark C Posted June 25, 2019 Report Posted June 25, 2019 Hi All, I know it's probably only assemblers markings but I would love to know what it all says/means. Top left could be 41 which is the number on all the fittings. Many thanks in advance. All the best Quote
SteveM Posted June 25, 2019 Report Posted June 25, 2019 Yes, top left is 四十一号 (#41) as you said. Then, horizontally, it looks like 官尾部隊 (Kan'o butai) which would be the name of an army unit. Kan'o Unit. But I can't find any reference to any such unit, so my reading may be off. Could also be 官庵部隊 (Kan'an butai), but again, no reference to support this one either. Then, vertically, is a name: 濱東一郎, Hama Tōichirō. Then other random kanji and kana that I have no idea of the meaning. 父中、四枚、八サ、は下 The last three are probably assembly or manufacturing details. Edit: the first of these marks could be 父ヰ. 1 Quote

Edit: the first of these marks could be 父ヰ. The army unit's name may be 宮尾部隊 - Miyao butai. And there is a chance that the name 濱本一郎 reads Hamamoto Ichiro. The first word in the last part might be 交付 - grant or 受付 - acceptance. 3 Quote
Mark C Posted June 26, 2019 Author Report Posted June 26, 2019 Thank you very much, I would not of worked that lot out in a million years. Quote
SteveM Posted June 26, 2019 Report Posted June 26, 2019 Yes, I like Hamamoto Ichirō better than my guess. Edit: And I like 宮尾 (Miyao) better than 官尾 (Kan'o), but I'm still not having any luck finding any references to either. But since Miyao is a reasonably common last name (whereas Kan'o isn't), I think Miyao might be the right call. 1 Quote
