Looks like shōbu-zukuri, which may be why Steve is wondering about the shape. Steve, if you search the web for other examples of shōbu-zukuri, you will find a lot of swords that have the same shape as yours.

Hi Steve,

The 1st step is to determine if the mei is right or a forgery; false signatures are very common.  If you decide the mei is correct then you should show the sword to a properly trained polisher, who will be able to answer that question.

From what I can put together, based on mekugi ana and the mei work this is not a good signature, BUT school swords often had major variations, so be wary and look into it.
