daddysgirl Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Have been given a samurai sword to sell but I know nothing about this subject. The sword is hand forged. Has a braided handle (tang) and there is writing on both sides. The blade fits in a wooden casement. The primary scheme of this sword seems to be roses. All parts of the handle come apart. I have pictures if that helps. http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/6/6/9/9/ ... 6645_o.jpg http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/6/6/9/9/ ... 6677_o.jpg http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/6/6/9/9/ ... 6690_o.jpg http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/6/6/9/9/ ... 6708_o.jpg Quote

Brian Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Hi Sarah, As Stephen said, please feel free to post a few more pics of the blade and mounts. This is a wartime blade, and may be in the standard shin-gunto mounts. Pics of the blade will help us to verify if it is indeed handmade or mass produced, as most of these with this type of "chippy" signature were arsenal blades. But only the pics will tell for sure. Regards, Brian Quote
Stephen Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 PS pix of the saya (scabbard) where theres a white lable? may help us also. the area next to the hanger and under the torn leather cover. Like Brian said most likely a war time smith as the long linage of Yoshimichi end in the 1850s? in Hawleys book. Pix of the blade temper line and grain pattern will help us tell. Quote
