Hello Guys,

I go this old Plate.

It might not be Japanese at all... :(

but, I thought it might be an old Oribe Plate.

The surface has ashes imbedded, so, I assume it was being used as an Incense Burner/plate.

The designs are simple patterns, and with the greens, which is why it  made me think Oribe.

Also posted for your viewing.. a couple of old Seto vases I have.. :)

Like you said it might very well not be made in Japan. It doesn't really scream any particular style to me as far as origin goes. Could be from Thailand.

Alton,

This one is a head scratcher, like Axel, I am not seeing a strong indicator of origin.  Offhand, this doesn't say Japan/China/Korea to me, none of the major players but, I just don 't know.  Hopefully someone can identify this for you.   BTW what am I looking at, low relief decoration?

Cheers,

Hello Steven,

The other patterns are raised..

the cross hatch lines, the symbols are all raised above the surface.

so, not hand etched.. :(

More like "Stamped"..

Mass produced?..       :doubt:

>>>>  Souvenir from a foreign Tourist Shop ?  :o

Alton < Chances are slim to none..  :)

Funny, Alton!

Spent quite a while searching the net for something similar and came up wanting.  Perhaps it is from one of the Himalayan kingdoms or southeast asian.  Whatever,  I would love to know the answer as well.

Cheers,
