saintfan Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Hello to everyone. After much searching of the Net, I finally found a site I was comfortable with. I am looking for someone to direct me to a club, person, broker: someone who can help me. I purchased a sword in Tokyo in 1955, took it to the "Tokyo Sword Company" to find out as much about the sword as possible. On their letter head they said it was 720 years old, listed the prefecture and maker. Unfortunately that piece of paper has been lost in all my moves. It is an army Kyu-Gunto style sword. What makes me curious is that there are 4 holes drilled in the tang, that makes me think an old blade may have been modified. It appears to be a SHOBU-ZUKURI blade with an IHORI Mune, a TORAN style Hamon, a FUNGATA Tang and a KIN Tang tip. It needs to be polished since a 12 year old neighbor boy took it out of my home, in New Orleans, and tried to chop down some bushes. Any help, from anyone, will certainly be appreciated. Thanks, Ed Micklewright Hattiesburg, MS, USA Quote
John A Stuart Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Hi Ed, At the top of the page is all the information you may need. There are ways to contact clubs, some in your region, restoration people and general information. However, we are a curious bunch and would love to see as much of your sword as possible. Maybe some pictures of the various areas of your sword especially dismounted. Welcome, John Quote
saintfan Posted May 4, 2008 Author Report Posted May 4, 2008 Thanks John. I'll attempt to put some pics up tomorrow. Ed Quote
Brian Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Hi Ed, Looking forward to the pics. Look at the Forum Guidelines section for info on how to post pics, what size etc. Not familiar with Hattiesburg, MS, but maybe some of our US members can advise you on where your closest sword studybranch is, or where to take it to get a decent opinion. An early Kamakura blade would be a nice find. A few pics will help us to give some advice. Try and get an overall shot of the shape, some of the tang and maybe a few of the blade/hamon. Also include a few dimensions. Regards, Brian Quote
