Jiro49 Posted November 10, 2017 Report Posted November 10, 2017 Ok, I’m confused.. Tight itame/mokume, bo-utsuri, jinei, chikei, suguba nio-deki, sunnobi o-tanto sugata(13.75”nagasa), with the partial mei all says oei bizen. Except the boshi, long kaeri but pointed... So yasumitsu as he descended from kozori or a smith from the chogi school? Or? Bishu osa (omote) oei niju nen hachi gatsu (ura). Quote
Jiro49 Posted November 14, 2017 Author Report Posted November 14, 2017 Only looking at the boshi with long kaeri..? Any opinions regarding if I’m on the right track. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted November 15, 2017 Report Posted November 15, 2017 Pics are tough to add much. I don’t see - in the pics - the activity you describe. It also may be the pics, but I don’t see nie deki hamon, as one would expect in soden Bizen work. Can you provide more pics? Quote
Jiro49 Posted November 15, 2017 Author Report Posted November 15, 2017 A bunch here http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/24099-possible-trade-oei-bizen-tanto/ Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted November 15, 2017 Report Posted November 15, 2017 Doesn’t scream soden-Bizen work to me. Looks Bizen to me, but I’ve been wrong before. This could just be the pics, but It’s missing the nie deki hamon and needs more activity - like sunagashi etc. Keep in mind that my comments are focused on the fact that I collect soden Bizen GENDAI, so I could be completely wrong. Jiro49 Posted November 15, 2017 Author Report Posted November 15, 2017 I appreciate it! I thought I read that even when tempering in the soden style it would still be nio-deki. Thanks again! Quote
Jean Posted November 15, 2017 Report Posted November 15, 2017 Joe, Bizen hamon is nioi deki till sue Muromachi where nie deki began to overcome nioi deki. There is a theory saying that in sue Muromachi if Bizen swords lost their utsuri it is because they became nie deki, another one says that they lost their utsuri because it was not anymore in fashion. Nevertheless, I have seen nie deki sue Bizen with utsuri.... Oei Bizen hada is typical, generally a mix of itame and mokume with a lot of small chikei and a tendency to nagare. Have a look at my Oei : http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/17414-achieved-collection-gokaden/ 1 Quote
