Dear sirs

i have come across several swords and daggers and humbly request some help identifying them

here are a few of the pictures

My great uncle was a curator of the British Museum for decades, he died recently and had no family.

When we cleared his flat he had a few nice Japanese blades, wrapped up in a rising sun flag, they all look very old and are amazingly sharp. I belive they are authentic.

There was also an amount of Japanese prints and coinage all look authentic and old.

I have spoken to a few pple and they pointed me in this direction as regards the blades.

ill post a few picures of what i have, give me some feed back if you can please.

Im not a collector, and while i appreciate the beauty of them, i would like to get them identified to value and sell them eventually.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi.

Your long sword is signed KISHO (certain victory) followed by KATO JUMYO.

This looks like a showa period gunto or modern WWII made sword for military use. He was active in Seki Province in WWII. If it happens to be an earlier smith of the same name, then you may have found a very good sword.

Hi Loonboy, I confidently can say this is a showato made in Seki, Mino and not from an earlier period. Mounted as originally intended. In nice nick. John

BTW, What is the claw hammer by your knees for? I hope you do not need it to dismount your sword. J

Although I am not interested in the mountings I would be interested in buying it for the blade as a modern rep of a line I have an interest in. Research a bit and then come up with what you'd like and I'll tell you if it is reasonable for me. Fair? John
