Jeff Pringle Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Well, I've had a go at this via the Nihonto kanji pages as well as some of the fonts on my computer, and gotten nowhere - maybe not the best choice for a first attempt at reading an inscription in Japanese... Thanks for any assistance! Jeff Quote
Darcy Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 First is a bonji, last is a kao. I had some guesses on the others but don't think they're any good . Quote
Guest reinhard Posted March 25, 2008 Report Posted March 25, 2008 Bonji Osaka X(?) MORIMICHI saku. Kao Looks strange. reinhard Quote
sencho Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 Bonji maybe Osaka as Reinhard says but I am not 100% 大阪 we're talking about the prefecture right??? Sakamichi saku ç››é“作 ... at first glance, but also as Reinhard says Morimichi... same 1st kanji.... no SAKA's in Hawleys but lots of MORI's Kao Quote
Darcy Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 Ugh. I get it, it's two rows of kanji. I was trying to look those up as three kanji heh, no wonder I couldn't get anywhere! Quote
sencho Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008  first time I looked I thought... "bloody hell, that's a lot of strokes!!!!" Quote
Nobody Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 The mei may be; 大å‚ä½ (Osaka ju) or (Ozaka ju?) ç››é“作 (Morimichi saku) I am not sure about the bonji, but it could be Acala. Quote
sencho Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 Moriyama san.... Sumimasen... regarding the Kanji for Osaka 大å‚ rather than the kanji for the prefecture 大阪 ... is this an older kanji for Osaka?... or does it refer to something else?? Thanks and regards Nigel Quote
Nobody Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 Nigel, Osaka (Ozaka?) was written as å¤§å‚ until Meiji or late Edo period. But I am not good at history. Quote
sencho Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 "Arigatou san!!" :D Cheers! Quote
