Toryu2020 Posted April 14, 2017 Report Posted April 14, 2017 Awataguchi Ikkanshi Tadatsuna hori do saku 2 Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted April 14, 2017 Report Posted April 14, 2017 First sayagaki is Awataguchi ikkanshi tadatsuna hori do saku Second sayagaki is X Masataka (he was a shinshinto hamabe smith) First mei is MasaX (kao) - could be Masataka, but can't tell Second mei X masayuki (looks like a Showa non-traditional sword signature) Third mei - Shoji chikuzen no daijo taikei naotane (this is a BIG shinshinto mei and should be further inspected for legitimacy/forgery/gimei) Third sayagaki is same naotane signature Edit: looks like Tom and I were working at the same time 2 Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted April 14, 2017 Report Posted April 14, 2017 mei Masataka Oh duh! I should've got "Mei"! I guess I'm just not accustomed to seeing that on a three character sayagaki. Thanks Tom! Quote
PhoenixDude Posted April 14, 2017 Author Report Posted April 14, 2017 More pics of #3, what do you think? does this look like his work or gimei? sorry about the poor pics, my phone wont really pick up the hamon.I did asbestos I could. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted April 14, 2017 Report Posted April 14, 2017 My guess is gimei. Do a search for Taikei Naotane and you'll see what I mean when I say that the chisel work on yours is FAR more "hesitant" than the pampered examples. Quote
PhoenixDude Posted April 14, 2017 Author Report Posted April 14, 2017 and who is this masayuki guy? the rust on the nakago seems to indicate it being older than showa. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted April 14, 2017 Report Posted April 14, 2017 Probably this guy: Masayuki (正行), Shōwa (昭和, 1926-1989), Gifu – „Masayuki“ (正行), civilian name „Miwa Tomoo“ (三輪友雄), born August 8th 1895, he worked as guntō smith http://www.japaneseswordindex.com/oshigata/masayuk2.jpg Quote
PhoenixDude Posted April 14, 2017 Author Report Posted April 14, 2017 Thanks for the help joe! I dont really think its that masayuki though, the examples of his look a little more flowing, and the rust on the nakago is alot deeper than showa period. The masayuki sword is a katana with a beautiful ornate dragon horimono and 3 Sanskrit characters on it. Quote
PhoenixDude Posted April 14, 2017 Author Report Posted April 14, 2017 Im beginning to lean towards it being a gimei sig trying to pass off as an early kiyomaro sword. Quote
