Another puzzle. To me it looks like

 

作州高田住信包

Sakushū Takada-jū Nobukane

 

 

I couldn't find much to support this reading, though. A couple of obscure references on Google...but that's about it.

Yes, a puzzle.

 

I have spoken to a couple of collectors and they also agree it's Nobukane, probably a gendaito swordsmith but perhaps earlier.

 

The question (puzzle) is where and when it was made (and who is this Nobukane?)

Could this be from the Takada school in Oita?

If Sakushū (作州) is correct, then this would be Takada in the province of Mimasaka  (美作), Sakushū being the abbreviation for Mimasaka-shū. 

 

The Takada in Oita would have a different province/country name at the beginning.

Looking at the first character 作, could it be different. It appears not to have the three strokes marks on the right kanji....looks like the stroke goes straight down..what do you think and if so what does this kanji then say?

I received this information

 

The sword signature is Saku shu Takada ju Nobukane.

作州高田住信包

 

He may be a sword smith in Owari.

We can find his name in sword dictionary.

He was active in and around Late Edo period about 160 years old.

He moved from Owari to Mimasaka(Saku shu) and Suo province.

 

Anyone know who this swordsmith is...and his ranking among swordsmiths?

My blade is in gunto mounts, so obviously less expensive but seems like an important swordsmith...maybe.

I found this below....could it be the same (Nobukane) person? I'm thinking maybe he started in Owari then moved to Mimasaka.
