vajo Posted November 2, 2016 Report Posted November 2, 2016 For this Tsuba I didnt find out informations about school and period. # 2 (Dragon in clouds with Shakudo mimi, silver pearl dots and gold eyes) 73 x 66 x 6.5 mm (mimi) /the dragon sorts out total to average 10-11 mm thickness. Hope someone can help. Regards Chris Quote
ROKUJURO Posted November 2, 2016 Report Posted November 2, 2016 Chris, the JAKUSHI school (early EDO JIDAI) used this subject quite often in their iron TAKABORI TSUBA. In this case, the bad resolution of the photo does not allow to see details. I could not tell if it is cast or genuinely handmade, but the application of precious metals can be a hint to a real TSUBA. Quote
vajo Posted November 2, 2016 Author Report Posted November 2, 2016 Hello Jean, these are other photos. Sorry I can't do better. Outside it is so dark now and the lights in my room is bad. With my limited experience i would say the iron is well forged. The iron is shining blue. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted November 2, 2016 Report Posted November 2, 2016 Chris, these photos are indeed better! TSUBA looks handmade, but a bit on the crude side. Maybe the maker had JAKUSHI in his mind, but was in a hurry (mass production?). Probably much later than early EDO. The blue colour of the iron has nothing to do with forging or the quality of the metal. This could be the effect of a final heat treatment. Quote
vajo Posted November 2, 2016 Author Report Posted November 2, 2016 Thank you Jean. What you think how it looks on the sword? It fits perfect for me. 1 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted November 2, 2016 Report Posted November 2, 2016 Chris, when you like it, it is the right TSUBA!Unless you want to sell, you have to find the right match for yourself, which is often dictated by money, but mostly by the individual taste. 2 Quote
MauroP Posted November 2, 2016 Report Posted November 2, 2016 Just a suggestion based on Gestalt feeling: what about Hizen (肥前) school?(sorry, I missed the original references)Mauro Quote
vajo Posted November 3, 2016 Author Report Posted November 3, 2016 Thank you Mauro. But these Hizen don't look good on that edo koshirae. The dragon in cloud tsuba is very nice and worthy. I like it. For me it looks perfect now. Quote
MauroP Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 Hi Chris, I was just suggesting that your tsuba could be a Hizen one. Regards, Mauro Quote
vajo Posted November 3, 2016 Author Report Posted November 3, 2016 Hi Mauro sorry i was missunderstanding you. My english is so worse Thanks for replay. Best Chris Quote
