zanilu Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Good evening to everybody I have recently purchased an Heiajo tsuba with a decoration of Autumn grass, Deer and Swallowtail Butterflies. The tsuba has a NBTHK Hozon paper attached. The tsuba also comes with an hold box with hakogaki. I had managed to translate the NBTHK paper but the hakogaki is beyond my ability to translate Japanese (I am limited to a guess based on counting strokes). I was wondering if more knowledgeable NMB members are able to help me with the translation of the hakogaki and thus help me to get more information about the tsuba. The dimensions of the tsuba are: 81 mm x 82.5 mm x 3.0 mm (both seppa dai and mimi) The salient points of the NBTHK papers are: 一つ秋草遊鹿揚羽蝶図鐔 Hitotsu Akikusa Y¯u Shika Agehachozu Tsuba One Autumn Plants Deer Swallowtail Butterfly Illustration (Picture) Tsuba 無銘平安城象嵌-丸形鉄磨地-真 鍮平象嵌毛彫丸耳 Mumei Heianjo Zogan – Marugata Tetsu Migaki-Ji - Shinchu Hirazogan Keboria - Maru Mimi Without Signature Heianjo Inlay - Round Shaped Iron Smooth Surface - Brass Flat Inlay Line Carved – Round Edge I have made my own guess is that it could be from the late Muromachi age but I would also like to have the opinion of more experienced collectors. SteveM Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Hakogaki is (with some gaps where it is illegible to me) 平安城 - Heianjō 鉄地丸形 - Tetsuji marugata 菊花散らし真鍮象嵌 - Kikuhana chirashi, Shinchū Zōgan Chrysanthemum with scattered petals 無名 (illegible) - Mumei 健全にて雅味あり - Kenzen ni te gami ari. A fine work in good condition 昭和囗囗初夏 - Showa ?? shoka. Showa ? early summer 公囗誌 - Kimi ? shirusu 2 Quote
