md02geist Posted May 19, 2016 Report Posted May 19, 2016 I have looked and looked and looked but I cannot find the name for the folding camp stools that commanders are often pictured sitting on with their retainers around them. Does anyone know the word for them? Thank you! Quote
md02geist Posted May 19, 2016 Author Report Posted May 19, 2016 Of course two minutes after I post it I do one last search and find them: shogi. Ha. Quote
John A Stuart Posted May 19, 2016 Report Posted May 19, 2016 Either Shougi or Shōgi is better. Shogi won't work properly. John. 2 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted May 20, 2016 Report Posted May 20, 2016 Try 床几 in your search engine. I have four of these at home! My wife thinks... 3 Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted May 20, 2016 Report Posted May 20, 2016 Hi Piers., Would 床几 be included as その他 - "Sonohoka" in Katchu related equipment terms? Pip Pip Quote
md02geist Posted May 20, 2016 Author Report Posted May 20, 2016 Either Shougi or Shōgi is better. Shogi won't work properly. John. Thank you that is probably why I was having problems with it. And if you just google "samurai stool" you get a really odd lot of stuff. LOL. 2 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted May 20, 2016 Report Posted May 20, 2016 Hello Malcolm, good to see your post! Unfortunately I cannot answer your question as I am not sure to which site you refer. Shogi has a long o and a short i, important differences in the Japanese language, but using the characters 床几 will give md02geist good visual results on a Japanese search engine. Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted May 21, 2016 Report Posted May 21, 2016 Good morning Piers., The old Toraba site referred to items such as Muchi, Gunbai, Sashimono, and Kegutsu as Sonohoka. I wondered if it was a general term for Accessories or literally the "et ceteras" of Armour. Pip Pip Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted May 21, 2016 Report Posted May 21, 2016 Ah, no, sorry I misunderstood you. Sono hoka, (Sono ta) その他 = extras, for anything, even at the bottom of the agenda for a company meeting. 2 Quote
