Jean, take a look.  It's not a great picture and polish isn't good but I can see enough that it is very similar to other swords for this smith.  I'm hoping to see it in person this weekend.  What do you think?

Check the mei James to see if it matches any generation, there was a post about these smiths not long ago.

Independantly of the blade health, the hamon is not sudare, so the price should reflect it...

Characteristics that I can discern.  Signature looks good to me and mostly resembles 3rd generation, Osaka branch.  From the pictures, it has a Yakidashi, or sloping hamon.  Hamon is not sudare-ba (curtains), this very distinctive but not all swords from this school had that.  This has a wandering hamon, I've seen pictures of it but not sure what it's called.

As always, the blade's the most important thing, so probably no use fretting about the signature until you get the blade in your hand and can have a good look at it. However, since you mentioned Osaka 3rd generation Yoshimichi, I dug up some other examples of this signature. In short, I don't think this signature matches Osaka 3rd generation Yoshimichi. The Yoshi (吉) is a giveaway. Here are presumably authentic Yoshimichi 3rd gen. swords and signatures.

In the sword you are looking at, Yoshi is written differently from those linked above. In the sword in this post, the top component of Yoshi is 土 (つち) instead of 士 (し), a difference that is almost too subtle to notice in this font, but on the swords it becomes very apparent. The authentic swords use Yoshi with a 士 (short horizontal stroke on the bottom). There are other things, too, that would push me away from Osaka 3rd gen. Yoshimichi.

Again, none of this means the sword isn't a genuine Yoshimichi. I just think its probably not Osaka 3rd. Would be great to have better pictures of the blade itself.

I viewed the sword today and not sure what to think. When I put my eye at the tang and viewed the length of it it appeared wavy like machine buffed perhaps. I did not come home with it but took some more pics. The habaki does not fit right. Tsuba seemed better in person.
