Mark Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 I have a sword, i am not sure what exact type. At first i thought an early cavalry commissioned officer (type 19), but the guard does not have openings. Also a strange thing is it appears it originally has a silver wash finish, i can see the remnants of the original silver in areas of the handle. The cavalry sword should have original brass finish. So i thought Police sword, but again the guard does not have the openings, same for early type 8 Army riding sword. Has anyone seen a mount like this? It is sort of plain and would have been finished in silver. It has an old handmade blade (Shinto i think) Quote
lonely panet Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 Hi mark, I think your close to the cav idea. the knuckle guard is very simular to the type 25, but is missing the finger loop hole and the latch hole. also I think the scabbard belongs to the type 25 model as well. all the the type 19 cav swords iv seen all have chrome/Nichol plated scabbards, but there is always a odd one. Does the side latch work on the scabbard, if not, it could be a "put togeather" piece. so maybe a custom order? some one that wished to take his type 25 with him, when he joined the cavalry but had to change the tsuka to meet regulations. can you post some pics please. I like the odd late meiji-taisho swords Quote
Mark Posted February 2, 2016 Author Report Posted February 2, 2016 Hamish thanks. what do you want to see? i took an overall picture and tried to show the tsuka clearly Quote
