Teimei Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 Hello, i am in the process to buy my first naginata and wanted to ask, if there is a special tradition to display it? Yeah, i know it all comes down to personal taste at the end but... you know it does not hurt to ask. The naginata is quite long, so i must find a way to "press" it in the space that is left in my nihonto room. Thanks in advance! regards, Quote
ROKUJURO Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 Florian, the blade rests well preserved in its SHIRA-SAYA in the TANSU. The shaft with the TSUNAGI and the lacquered SAYA are upright in a stand in a corner of the room so there is little risk to fall over it.My personal suggestion, unless you prefer to store it horizontally in a rack under the ceiling/above your head if you want to be prepared (used to be a traditional way in Japan's war times). . Teimei Posted December 7, 2015 Author Report Posted December 7, 2015 Hi Jean, thanks for your answer. Unfortunately, i don´t own a tansu. There is no koshirae to the nagainata (that i know of :D), so no need for that extra stand. I do not have the space for that anyway. I have an empty katana kake left, i think that will do it for the fist time. I just put it in the shirasaya, blade up like with my other blades. regards, Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted December 8, 2015 Report Posted December 8, 2015 Florian, I assume that the blade comes in shirasaya, & that the blade will be a bit loose inside the wood (at least both of mine are loose). Like Jean, I keep both of mine in a tansu, with the koshirae mounted horizontally, because there's a lot of moisture in the air where I live, & I don't want the metal to rust. So please make sure that you have secured the blade so that it's protected. Ken Quote
Teimei Posted December 8, 2015 Author Report Posted December 8, 2015 Hi Ken, i don´t have the naginata in hand yet, but i will definitely check the fit in the shirasaya and make sure thet the blade is protected. It is not that humid where i live, although i keep my blades lightly oiled so that they do not rust. Quote
