Tanto54 Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 Dear James, There are literally thousands of dragon menuki in this same general configuration. At first, many of them may look the same to you, but on closer inspection, you'll begin to see many subtle differences. Usually the quality of the fittings on a sword are fairly consistent across the pieces. On your sword (in my opinion) I believe that the menuki are better than the other fittings, but I would agree with Jason that they are not higher level. Quote
Prewar70 Posted December 17, 2015 Author Report Posted December 17, 2015 I'm sure there are a lot of dragon motifs but these are eeeextremely similar, not just close. Quote
Brian Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 Smiths/schools used pattern books, and shared them extensively. It is not even slightly unusual to find almost identical fittings from various smiths and schools. They also copied stuff extensively. No..I don't think these point to the same maker at all. I also think the gold ones are far better quality. Quote
