I agree, but with shinsakuto, they can always contact the smith himself to verify the signature. Plus on kogatana, faking shinsakuto isn't a huge issue we are facing nowdays.

Don't think you can get origami for living smiths though.

Not sure if it has changed in the recent updates but at one time the NBTHK wouldn't issue certificates for living smiths.

If you know who made it and he's alive ask him to confirm its authenticity. It has to be better than anyone elsesopinion.

Hello:

 None of the legitimate organizations will issue papers for living, perhaps even recently deceased, makers. Recently the new NBTHK standards, not new in that regard, were posted on Danny Massey's nihontocraft site. There were some surprising changes, but no change there.

Some people always question the signature.

 

Why would they do that? Anyhow, Takano-san is at the DTI every year, you could show / have it shown to him in November.

I'm not sure if you've heard, but gendaito and shinsakuto is a now frequent subject of forgery/gimei

 

Not my field of collecting, so I'm not really up to date on this development indeed.
