Heringsdorf Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 Hello, Is it possible to submit a newly made Kogatana for NBTHK Hozon? Quote
Brian Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 If it is newly made, why would you submit it for Hozon which will only tell you what you already know..who made it. Brian Quote
Heringsdorf Posted August 6, 2015 Author Report Posted August 6, 2015 Some people always question the signature. If the piece has a certificate most are more trusting, and it usually increases the value. Quote
Brian Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 I agree, but with shinsakuto, they can always contact the smith himself to verify the signature. Plus on kogatana, faking shinsakuto isn't a huge issue we are facing nowdays. Don't think you can get origami for living smiths though. Brian Quote
paulb Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 Not sure if it has changed in the recent updates but at one time the NBTHK wouldn't issue certificates for living smiths. If you know who made it and he's alive ask him to confirm its authenticity. It has to be better than anyone elsesopinion. 1 Quote
seattle1 Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 Hello: None of the legitimate organizations will issue papers for living, perhaps even recently deceased, makers. Recently the new NBTHK standards, not new in that regard, were posted on Danny Massey's nihontocraft site. There were some surprising changes, but no change there. Arnold F. Quote
Heringsdorf Posted August 6, 2015 Author Report Posted August 6, 2015 I tried to find this smith contact information but was unable to do so. How can I ask him about this Kogatana? Quote
Guido Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 Some people always question the signature. Why would they do that? Anyhow, Takano-san is at the DTI every year, you could show / have it shown to him in November. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 Why would they do that? I'm not sure if you've heard, but gendaito and shinsakuto is a now frequent subject of forgery/gimei Quote
Guido Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 I'm not sure if you've heard, but gendaito and shinsakuto is a now frequent subject of forgery/gimei Not my field of collecting, so I'm not really up to date on this development indeed. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 Sadly yes. As modern work becomes more valuable, gimei is becoming more and more of a problem (even smiths as average as Nagamitsu and emura). I've seen gimei work by both. Quote
