jemmd Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 Bought this waki at an estate auction some years ago for $150.00. Polish could have been taken another step or two. Thought I would bring it to light and see if it would draw a comment. Thanks John Quote
Henry Wilson Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 The end looks cut possibly removing the last character of the smiths name. Looks very shinto and nice habaki. Quote
jemmd Posted September 27, 2007 Author Report Posted September 27, 2007 Kissaki had about 2mm of tip broke off. Polisher fixed the problem and maintained a balanced shape. Hamon is still quite wide in this location and turns back. One of Fred Lohmans polishers did the work, money was tight so I stopped the polish at the stage it is now. Blade is 18 1/2" to munemachi. Ludolf Richter Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 Hi John, the Mei reads Bishu Okayama ju Fujiwara Kuni--- the missing part mune (and probably saku) Its Hawley's Kunimune KUN 642 Bizen 1659 20x The "Oka" Kanji is strange but typical for him.Look at page 237 of Fujishiro's Shinto hen on the left side. Brian Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 Ludolf, Think I am going to have to change your title to "resident sleuth" :D You really have a knack for going that extra mile with research and filling in the missing gaps. Great work Brian Quote
Nobody Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 Good work Ludolf! FYI; This is another mei of Kumimune. Quote
jemmd Posted September 27, 2007 Author Report Posted September 27, 2007 Ludolf Thank you very much for the info on the blade. I really didn't know much about this one. I am thinking about maybe selling it in the near future. College bills are coming in. Thanks John Quote
