Justin Grant Posted May 27, 2015 Report Posted May 27, 2015 All, I am trying to understand this tag on a table that has 4 dragon for legs and the top has a carved dragon. It is reported to be from the 1904 Worlds Fair in St. Louis and purchased form the Japanese Pavilion. I know the top two Kanji read Japan, but not sure of the rest. There is no supporting documentation on the table other than this tag. Any help is appreciated. Quote
k morita Posted May 30, 2015 Report Posted May 30, 2015 Hi,Not "Sha" 舎Right reading is "Nihon Shōkai" 日本商會 , meaning is Nihon commercial firm / a trading company/ Co.Kai(會) is an old style-Kanji of Kai(会). 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted May 30, 2015 Report Posted May 30, 2015 Ah, that would explain it. Many thanks. (No-one replied to poor Justin's request, so I thought I would step in and take any flak.) Quote
Justin Grant Posted May 30, 2015 Author Report Posted May 30, 2015 Thank you both very much. I'm not sure this tag validates the table as being from that event. So, I'll pass on it. But I appreciate your kind help! Quote
