drbvac Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 I wish I could take better pics! Any links to how to photos of swords. Any way hers a couple more- still think this is gendaito with acceptance stamp. Quote
Stephen Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 I dunno, sure doesn't look like oil tempered, but it also may be made from something other than tamahagane. :? Think that says it all, nice all the way around, one of the head scratcher's perhaps a shot of the stamp pulled back enought to show the hamachi and hamon running into the nakago? sometimes too close is just that. Brian Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 I see no reason to suspect this is oil quenched, besides the stamp (and that is not 100% reliable) Looks like a nice hamon in fact. Traces of hadori finish? The best thing to do is to look closely and see if you can see any signs of nie. Hada can be hidden by the polish, although in the right light you may see it. That is also a very nice horimono. Because this was made before the war, I would probably say tamahagane, although there are always exceptions. But either way a very nice sword by a known maker. Wait for one of the USA shinsas to come around and find someone here to act as an agent to ship it to and submit it. That will tell you more than all of us put together. (Btw..let's try and keep all the posts about one sword in one single thread) Brian Quote
Min Lee Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 I have a Kanefusa that I'm 99% sure that it's oil quenched. Really interesting looking hamon too. Looks like 3 cedar but only 2, and has a dripping effect to it. Anyway, the hamon on your Kanefusa don't look like mine at all. Maybe water quenched but not made of tamahagane? texture and feel of the steel is very reminiscent to my blade. Anyway, I'm newb so take it for what it is. Just my observation. Ether way, your blade looks really nice. Love the kissaki and horimono. Quote
