Marius Posted May 18, 2015 Report Posted May 18, 2015 On behalf of a friend I am selling an o-suriage Yamato blade, most likely Shikkake school (although Tegai is also a possibility). The sword comes in koshirae and a nice sword bag. I have seen this sword in hand and it is an old Yamato blade, most likely Shikkake or Tegai. Of course if you want to be sure, you will need to submit this sword to shinsa. Polished by Bob Benson, who, BTW, thought this blade is Tegai. Sugata: o-suriage, honzukuri, ko-kisaki, high shinogiNagasa: 60 cmKasane: 0.56 cmHada: itame, masameHamon: suguha-cho z nijuba i sanjuba, hotsure, kuichigai-haBoshi: hakkikake with "old man's beard" Two typical features of the Shikkake school to be found in this sword are: masame hada close to the ha, and an "old man's beard" hakkikake boshi. The hamon has nijuba and sanjuba, hotsure and kuichigaiba.I suppose it is the latter which is behind Mr Benson's attribution The steel is bright, with numerous ji-nie. The sword comes in a simple koshirae (with nice menuki and simple but good iron sukashi tsuba). It has a nice sword bag, too. $2,600. Shipping charges and PayPal fees extra.
Marius Posted May 19, 2015 Author Report Posted May 19, 2015 Darn. Forgot pics of the boshi, sorry...
lonely panet Posted May 21, 2015 Report Posted May 21, 2015 I cant believe it, nobodys biting on such a neat little piece. a kamakura uchigatana in good condition for under $3k. has the world gone MAD, just like max
nihonto1001 Posted May 21, 2015 Report Posted May 21, 2015 I can see Tegai because of the dark konie. I once had a very nice Tegai Kanenaga. This would be a good one to run through a shinsa.
Marius Posted May 22, 2015 Author Report Posted May 22, 2015 Sword is on HOLD. Hamish, John, thanks for your input, it is greatly appreciated
