Robert Janssen Posted November 14, 2014 Report Posted November 14, 2014 Hey All, Personally I can't get enough of these types of videos, astonishing to see what bending and stresses our blades have gone through while being quenched. This video was posted on his facebookpage by Komiya (Rokuro) Kokuten, next in line in the Shiro Kunimitsu lineage. I'm linking to youtube now so all can see without needing a facebook account. Enjoy! c2tcardin Posted November 14, 2014 Report Posted November 14, 2014 Great find, I didn't realize they curved forward then back as much as the one in the video did. Quote

laowho Posted November 15, 2014 Report Posted November 15, 2014 Thanks! I never even knew they contracted forward before contracting back. I've always been a little skeptical about how much contraction was really involved in the quench, but now I'm amazed. Quote
Surfson Posted November 15, 2014 Report Posted November 15, 2014 You can see all of the clay coming off of it as it bends and then bends again. There must be some tremendous tension events during the process. I wonder to what extent the clay influences the first forward bend, since it cools faster in the ha and probably contracts first there. Quote
