This sword was handed down to me 30 years ago. My father had it since the war.

This past weekend was the first time I had seen the tang. I thought it was a mass produced

military gunto. After hours searching google I was more confused than when I started then I came across

this message board. There seems to be a lot of sincere and knowledge advice here.

Please help me identify this sword. keep in mind I have very little experience in the sword world.

Just click on the Nihonto Message Board near the top in bold letters. General Nihonto related messages. Then fifth thread from the top.BTW Morita san? Is one of the most knowledgeable people in the world on the subject of Nihonto. He is simply amazing and very helpful!

Try "special steel",at SEARCH on top of index page of this Forums.

 

I surmise that "special steel" means near stainless steel or cold-resistant steel.

I think k morita San is correct in saying it will be stainless steel or properties very similar to it, still a very rare sword
