LGMartialArts Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 Can someone please translate the mei on this katana? The seller claims it's a Showa Era katana signed by Nagamitsu - selling price is $3,300 - not that I'm getting it, just want to see if you all agree with the provenance. I would add the other pictures, but the person did a lousy job and you can't make out the hada or any other interesting details on the sword. Quote
Rich S Posted June 20, 2014 Report Posted June 20, 2014 Stephen - Yes, it's one of the mei of Ichihara Nagamitus. See: http://www.japaneseswordindex.com/naga.htm Rich S Quote
LGMartialArts Posted June 20, 2014 Author Report Posted June 20, 2014 thanks for the reply. Now for the big question - what's it's estimated worth with what can be seen around 90% polish (like I said, horrible pics by seller), and buke' koshirae? Quote
Rich S Posted June 20, 2014 Report Posted June 20, 2014 I've been out of active buying of swords for a long time. No idea what type of prices these are bringing now, especially those that have been apparently remounted for iaido, etc. Rich S Quote
Nathansan Posted June 20, 2014 Report Posted June 20, 2014 Mr. Garza: I would pass on this one---there are better ones out there and for less money ! Respects: Nathan Young Quote
Brian Posted June 20, 2014 Report Posted June 20, 2014 Based on the quality Gendai that were on offer here recently and had to be discounted, I wouldn't think it worth more than about $2K. Brian Quote
LGMartialArts Posted June 20, 2014 Author Report Posted June 20, 2014 Thanks to all who have posted... like I mentioned earlier though, I'm not buying it. I was just wondering about it's authenticity and approximate value based on the provenance and the buke' koshirae. Quote
