Kozuke no Kami Kanesada Wakizashi

Hi everyone,

I'd like to know if someone have information about Kozuke Kanesada and it's possible to prove it's a gimei or an authentique Wakizashi made by Kozuke Kanesada.

 

I think it might not be legit but it's my first time identifying a sword so, I might be wrong.

I clearly think it's a gimei now, the difference between each stroke of the kanji is far to apparent. Each stroke in your picture is clear, precise and gracious. The one in my picture is crude and clumsy. It show a proeminent lack in craftmaiship. Clearly a Gimei! i suspect the sword to be fake too with an almost indistinguishable Hamon.

 

What do you think?

Edit: Where can I buy this book and is it primarly in Hiragana, Katakana or Kanji? Arigato

Antoine,

I am fairly sure the sword is genuine and old, and there is probably a hamon and hada hidden under that "out of polishness" somewhere. It is just the mei that is a forgery, as are so many when dealing with big names.

Doesn't mean the sword is junk, it needs to be examined by someone who knows Nihonto. Wipe and oil, and see if you can make out a hamon in the right light.

Oh well, that would be an exercise for another time since I do not own the wakizashi. However it was a pleasing experience, I'll have another subject to study soon enough.

It is best to invest a little in reference books before making a large mistake with a sword.

I'm planning on getting it real soon although I don't know when.

I currently have The Connoisseurs Book of Japanese Swords and The Craft of the Japanese Sword wich I bought a few months ago. But I still want to possess a lot more knowledge before I buy my first nihonto.

 

However, the funny thing is that i've been studying Japanese history/culture for many years and language for a bit more than a year (all on my free time). So, a friend bought me a Shirasaya Wakizashi yesterday as he was impress by my dedication on the subject. While I decided to double my effort about nihonto, having a piece to study so early is quite an interesting assiduous challenge and very stimulating. Finally, this thread was my first practice study to get pointer to eventually deepens my knowledge on nihonto so that my first purchase would be the prize of present and futur acomplishment.
