Have at it, much higher than I could possibly afford. He claims someone told him if he got it papered it'd sell for $25k in Japan and that he's been low balled by a bunch of dealers. Didn't even make him an offer was just asking about it.

Yoshimichi should be very available online to come up with your own decision on gimei or shoshinmei. That said typically yoshimichi (those that I have seen) works in a very flamboyant hamon - which is difficult to determine from the CL pics. Maybe worth a look in hand, but the price point is a bit high even if its legit in this state and in gunto mounts.

Chris & Joe, I thought the prices of $12k and the quoted $25k were very high too. Found another suriage by Yoshimichi for $6500 that was papered, but most of the signature cut off. Anyways, unless it was really cheap, and I'm talking under $1000, I can't do it so I thought I'd share and hope one of you guys was a smooth talker to get a fair price on it . All bought up right now, (I mainly do bayonets, knives & guns, but swords are definitely the most interesting and fun to study, in the process of doing some cleaning out to free up some cash) so I didn't even try.

This guy is an odd duck. I did inquire about the sword last week, and he said he would consider offers over $10k. But, get this, if you purchase a web domain from him for a car dealership, he would throw in the sword for free. I guess he is hoarding potentially valuable domain names and is trying to unload them, undoubtedly at outrageous prices

Looks close to the 4th gen kyotamba - can't say gimei or not.

From my archives they range in price around 7000-10000 USD - and that's for in polish papered pieces.

he should have sold it to the person who told him it was worth 25k papered, if that person really thought it was good and worth that why is it still for sale. Suriage Shinto will not bring the top price

The Tanba (no) Kami Yoshimichi's are noted for their use of the sudare-ba hamon (pattern like venetian blinds or like bamboo screens). In addition to the sudare-ba hamon, some blades also have a pattern of Mt Fuji in clouds in the monouchi region. The Yoshimichi group used itame hada with masame in the shinogi.
