SwordGuyJoe Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 I saw this on eBay and am wondering what the engraving to the left of the date is? Maybe a soldier as it certainly wasn't the smith. Thanks in advance for the assistance. Quote
John A Stuart Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 因? の 甲 The second I can't read. After no is a radicle for cloth, as found in 紋 It makes no sense to me; direct cause by cloth armour?? Looks added by an illiterate. John Quote
cabowen Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 I would say definitely added later. Perhaps it reads 因?の神 where they split kami because there wasn't enough room....Mei is well cut. Who is the smith? Quote
John A Stuart Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 Hmmm, could be. If something like, 因るの神 Depend on God or even Depend on the Emperor. Maybe some patriotic or religious slogan scratched in by the owner. John Quote
Markus Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 I see "on no kami" (恩の神), lit. "God of Mercy". Really really badly chiselled. Also with the radical added atop of the other one. Strange. Maybe even added by a non-Japanese. Quote
Jiro49 Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 It is signed kiyokuni with a star stamp and numbers on the nakago mune. Regards, Quote

hxv Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 Judging from the picture, it's our old friend ejroush. Oops! Joe beat me to it. Hoanh Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted April 6, 2013 Author Report Posted April 6, 2013 Yup, but still a decent looking blade. Quote
cabowen Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 Thanks for the link...Nice blade. Too bad about the cheesy polish. Quote
cuttingedge59 Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 What I didn't get with this listing is the mix of civilian and military mounts ie in particular the civilian style tsuka. Makes me believe that possibly ejroush had fitted the tsuka himself and was not original to the sword . This is something he does often . Chris Quote
