Dr Fox Posted March 6, 2013 Report Posted March 6, 2013 Opinions please. I have been offered a Tsuba said to be from the 1700’s described as ‘Shoami school’ Crane feeding. Are you able to tell anything from these hastily taken photos. Size through nakago ana to edges 80mm. Edge 3mm Hate to miss it, if its real. Denis. Quote
Soshin Posted March 6, 2013 Report Posted March 6, 2013 Hi Denis, Can you please post a photograph of the tsbua in the correct orientation? If you are unsure of the orientation I am referring to please check some of the other topics. Having a macro view of the inside surfaces of the openwork would also be helpful as well. So far so good but I would like to see more detail photographs. Yours truly, David Stiles Quote
Dr Fox Posted March 6, 2013 Author Report Posted March 6, 2013 David Thanks for your reply, its unfortunate that I only had the tsuba for a moment, and a person with a phone camera. Despite a request to capture as i had placed the tsuba, it went from bad to worse. So I am out of luck with the images. But thanks anyway. Denis Quote
Henry Wilson Posted March 6, 2013 Report Posted March 6, 2013 This might help for now. The maru bori carving seems well done, but that could be me not knowing much. Better pics are need in my opinion as it reminds me of Jurassic Park Quote
Toryu2020 Posted March 6, 2013 Report Posted March 6, 2013 my opinion only but does not look like Shoami or 1700 to my eye, much closer to 1900... -t Quote
Dr Fox Posted March 6, 2013 Author Report Posted March 6, 2013 Thanks for your feedback, I don't know what i expected from such a pathetic photo shoot. Not my standard, but i am on the road and not home. I close with thanks, and decided to give this a miss, err on the side of caution. Regards Denis. Quote
Soshin Posted March 6, 2013 Report Posted March 6, 2013 Hi Denis, I try to look at the piece in hand first under as many different lighting condistions as possible and try to get a second opinion if possible from another collector. I also follow the general rule when in doubt and the above things are't possible let it go. Yours truly, David Stiles Quote
MauroP Posted March 6, 2013 Report Posted March 6, 2013 Hi Denis, Shoami school could be correct, in my opinion. See http://tsuba-no-bi.com/tsuba/detail/T00092/52/ bye, Mauro Quote
Dr Fox Posted March 6, 2013 Author Report Posted March 6, 2013 Well another vote of thanks is extended from me to you gentlemen, thank you, in view of the photos and time allowed, you all came up trumps. David I'm with you on your point, its gone to another home. It looked right but what do I know? Regards all. Denis. Quote
