Help with sayagaki

Can anyone help me with translating the name of the person who wrote a sayagaki on a sword of mine. The sayagaki is dated 12/8/1937, i think i make out Kawaguchi, but can't read the last 2 kanji. I seem to remember a couple of authors of sword reference books by the name Kawaguchi, maybe it is one of them? any help appreciated. The third and forth characters look like they mean that Kawaguchi-san wrote the sayagaki in his advanced age.

 

The third character looks to be the shoso variant of "chin" which loosely refers to advanced age.

 

The fourth character of is "shiki-su" meaning "written by".

 

I'd defer to those more knowledgeable in these characters, but by my references, this is their likely translation.

 

Danny Massey has an article on his site referring to a Kawaguchi Noboru of the Japanese Sword Academic Society. The time frame of 1937 would be about right, so perhaps this is your man?

The 3rd kanji is the given name of Mr. Kawaguchi.

The sayagaki reads as follows;

 

川口陟識 (Kawaguchi Noboru shirusu).

means Kawaguchi Noboru wrote (this).

 

識 also reads shiki as Ted mentioned.

Ted and Koichi Moriyama thanks for all the help, i appreciate it! Now i will have to find someone who has a copy of his reference books and see if by chance my sword is one he included in his oshigata.
