  1. It arrived from Nick and it's a 10 out of 10.
  2. Thats great Uwe and not boring. Thats the kind of information i am seeking. What can you tell me about makers or schools of these menpo? Is armor simmilar to nihonto in terms of schools and makers?
  3. So, i learned what i could quickly from some friendly folks and yes i got it wrong as a newbie. So did the seller in Japan so he canceled my order and then we worked out a much cheaper price in line with a modern display piece. Then I went to Nihonto Art and bought a real Edo menpo from Nick C.
  4. Ok, learning. No rivets on masks before when? Perhaps it was made by the Marutake Workshop?
  5. Hi all. Nihonto is old hat but armor is totally new for me. I'm looking at this edo menpo and obviously i have no idea if it is authentic, edo or showa. What do you think? Authentic Japanese and if so what period? The seller did note the mustache restoration. Other restorations are unknown. Thanks much!
  6. Ah, then it was the NTHK that was there last year.
  7. How many years might it be before the NBTHK returns for shinsa?
  8. It looks like i may have one by the same smith. The odd bit is the tanagobara nakago.
  9. $50 each item + shipping to you wherever you may be. Thanks!
  10. My god that is fantastic. Can you message me the asking price?
  11. It needs a proper polish at some point.
  12. I reached out to Paul Martin as well as the NBSK but no response from either yet. I'm trying but only so much is within my control.
  13. Another example of an unsigned gendaito. https://www.samuraimuseum.jp/shop/product/modern-authentic-Japanese-sword-gendaito-unsigned-katana/
  14. Neither pass nor fail due to living smith attribution
  15. Nope. Just what you see.
  16. This may be one of his research or experimenal swords. Read this here. https://www.samuraisword.com/gallery/swords/ono-yoshimitsu-with-his-saka-choji/ "Yoshimitsu’s research into swordmaking does not stop there. In a further effort to recreate the visual appearance of older blades, he has similarly forged works polished by different schools and by varying standards of polishers in order to analyze the effects on the finished blades. He conducts this research at his own expense." So, perhaps what i have is a non customer ordered (no signature needed) experimental sword. Based upon the polish we all questioned this may be the reason for it. More info is coming.
  17. Is that his signature on the blade?
  18. Do you have a reference to these rules?
  19. If so could you post any photos or info? Thank you!
  20. Ray, where might i find this chapter on Ono Yoshimitsu? Thanks
  21. I wonder if he made it for iaito and did not sign since it would not be an art sword.
  22. Message sent to Paul Martin for assistance.
