I Hello friends of Tosogu. My sister works in a lab, so I got her this piece with a little mouse on it. I was wondering if anyone could help me find out more about the piece. I don't know what fruit, like the mouse, for example, but mainly I need help identifying the school. It's not signed, and the back is sakudo, unlike the front, which isn't gold. I love the detail of the gold in gold. 1,4 x 10 cm 30gr

Thanks. One of my first tsubas. Totally inexperienced. At the time, I liked it better. It seems darkened to simulate another material may be and also have a mei. I imagine others might have it too. So, I won't waste too much time and leave it as is. Thank you very much for the help. I hope to do the same for others when I have more knowledge.

This is the most worrisome. It has a shiny layer and looks dark, but there seems to be rust underneath it. It seems stable, and I don't know if I should do something about it. Maybe it's corroding without being visible? I think this photo is quite natural may be more dark in the reality In the sun...it looks terrible in the photo; in reality, not so much. Thoughts??

Many cotton swabs and red rags later...done. I prefer to work on iron without oil to lift the red rust without darkening it. I work with bone, ivory, and rags soaked in distilled water. When the red rust doesn't show up as much anymore, I apply a thin layer of oil and rub with a cotton cloth. Thanks so much for the warning. I should definitely do this with some others.

I like it. I was aware of its size. Now I can only imagine my wife's face when she sees the last tsuba hanging on the front door. If I wanted to remove the red rust, I think I'd need a complete skeleton.

Ooo, thank you so much for the information. I'll record all the documentation in the file for my collection. Very grateful. My main question was why it has that golden color near the nagako ana. It seems out of place. It definitely looks original, and I love it. Does anyone know why this is there? I'm very grateful, as my knowledge is still very limited. I don't know Japanese, and I sometimes have trouble distinguishing between schools. I greatly appreciate your comments.

Hi friends. I'm here again. Tsuba is my passion and I want to learn as much as I can. I tried searching the forum, but I don't see anything specific. In this case, I look at these tsubas with a more critical eye now. The first thing that bothers me is that the one on the right has something that makes it shine. In my hand, it shines a lot, and it seems to me that the patina is adorned or protected with some wax that gives it that shiny appearance. The other one looks much more natural, but I see marks that I think are from corrosion or rust. I took the photo through a magnifying glass. Since both have details, I don't want to boil or use chemicals to preserve them. Is there any known method to avoid damaging the details and remove the artificial layer? Should I leave them like that, so they look stable? Perhaps get rid of it before I go blind looking at so much shine? Thanks in advance. Finally, I'm trying to catalog my modest collection, but I'm still too inexperienced to be precise. Could someone give me a hand?

Uau! Thanks a lot for the info. I´m very happy to discover a group of discussion at tsuba. Thanks a lot , i very heppyness. The seller says the tsuba tells a story about a large waterwheel used to carry water to Yodo Castle. He says it could be either Kyo Sukashi from early Edo or Daigoro from late Edo.

Hi Dan, and thank you so much for your review! I'm no expert (yet), but if I search on Lens or Google, I can't find one exactly like it. I found the Yodo Suisha design Mauro mentioned earlier, but it's not the same. I'm becoming a bit wary of iron tsubas and always check online before purchasing one. I don't know many more methods to differentiate this.
