  1. So I have another sword I need help translating.. Unfortunately the signature is very hard to read for me, i tried to copy it the best I could and write it down on paper. If anyone could help I'd appreciate it.
  2. But on this sword, people have come to the conclusion that it is Showa and not traditionally made?
  3. Whats the difference between Gendai and showa swords
  4. Thank you both! I got a chance to see a Tachi at the last show... It was an amazing thing to hold, it had a Orikaeshi-mei, which was the first I have ever seen.
  5. Ok, time for a really stupid question.. but this post also doubles as a bump to keep this great thread on top! So here goes: Why are some of the blades in the pictures laying on the HA?
  6. eBay is a junk market, filled with brand new crap and all reputable sellers and buyers for that matter should steer as far away from eBay and Paypal as humanly possible
  7. I really couldn't have said it better myself. I would have loved to attend this show.. It really is sad to hear that the attendance wasn't great.. Too many young people these days going to Anime conventions and junk like that instead of trying to learn anything!
  8. I tried looking this signature up in John Sloughs book, the characters are too erratic for me to find a match just by trying to match characters.. I looked the tang stamp up in Military swords of Japan, the closest thing I could find to that stamp was Kanezane.. But cross referencing the stamp in Sloughs book it doesn't match at all. Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks guys!
  9. eBay has become a trash market anyway. Any reputable sellers/dealers are advised to leave eBay as soon as humanly possible. Also ditch paypal, visit http://www.paypalsucks.com If you use paypal. This thread is a perfect example of the crap eBay WANTS on their website for sale. 2000 pages, 200 listings per page of fake swords coming from China.
  10. Oh wow.. I didn't realize what site it was that was under discussion.. I use that site a lot haha I hope it doesn't go away!
  11. Sorry to hear about your son, a similar thing happened to me in a baseball accident a few years back! Needless to say it cost a good bit of money and now have a half fake tooth up front! I thought I bit a chunk of the baseball haha  About the wak, if the hamon and the blade shape are still intact then people on this board might be able to give you information/date so you wouldn't need to carbon date it.
  12. Haha well Thank you Jean, for your experience! I am too new to this to know my taste yet, I know most people on this board have very specific tastes. Unfortunately I am still working on trying to recognize the differences between them
  13. I thought something of that sort, but I'd like to see that blade in person none the less to see its true color! Clearly I have much to learn, but as my collection stands now the sword we are discussing blows my swords out of the water! Maybe not so much in respect to single attributes, but as a package(just from my perspective). But I can say without a doubt that you can be much more selective because of your greater knowledge of this art And thank you for asking me why I thought that blade was beautiful and then stating what you saw. I learned a lot from that
  14. I thought that might be the case. If you could get some better close up clear pictures of the blade and kissaki someone here might be able to give you some more information as to what the blade is, but no promises!
  15. Its amazing most "westerners" still have no idea or even CARE about taking care of Japanese swords. It's still a joke or something... "Oh look what we found! A pretty sword how cool.. lets coat it with motor oil and put it in the basement for 50 years.." or "hey remember that sword I brought back from Japan? I'm going to go chop the tree down with it!"
  16. hahahaha oh thats the best ebay ad I've ever seen
  17. So you have a Katana in Army Kyu-Gunto mounts. Unfortunately that's all the information I can give you. I am sure others can tell you more about it. It looks very interesting.
  18. I'd have to say this is an older blade in newer mounts just based on the number of holes in the tang ,how far the "blood groove" extends down into the tang and the mei (if there ever was one) has been lost due to shortening of this sword(which leads me to believe "MACHI-OKURI"). How long is the ha?(sharp edge)
  19. Well the first thing I notice when I look at that sword is the just the color of the blade! That is a very rich deep color and is just attractive to my eyes. The shape of the kissaki is also very nice. The hamon, It looks like fire! I like that style. The Koshirae compliments the blade very well, and I like how beautiful the whole package looks together! The saya and habachi especially, just by looking at the sheathed blade in person I'm sure it has a great presence, even before you draw it! All in all it just looks complete from Kissaki to Kashira
  20. Ah! Thank you so much for posting that link Jean! I had previously read that and found it amazing. I had to reformat my computer and lost it though. But when I read this post I immediately thought of that website! Also, not sure if this is the same place as mentioned in the Nihonto website, but I found this: http://www.sokendo.net/samuraisoad.htm
  21. I have heard many people speak of Aoi Art highly: http://www.aoi-art.com/
