@Bugyotsuji I missed your translation post, sorry. Copy/paste below. So it is a gift sword, any ideas what author had in mind? 授与 (Juyo) is an awarded gift from above, someone senior to the recipient. Then it says 一彦殿, (Kazuhiko Dono, i.e. from? the esteemed Hazuhiko). 鬼種夫 (Kishuo?) seems to be the signature of the writer, but is it an Anime creature's name, 'husband of the demon'??? -

Thank you very much gentlemen for your help. My personal feeling was also Mino related blade. That is based on the attribution. About patina and 'cleaning' of it, who knows... I will ask for Sayagaki in translation section of the forum. Cheers!

Thank you for your opinion. My guess is also Shinto, although my friend thinks that patina on Nakago is older. Do you know maybe what exactly is written on Sayagaki?

Hello, My friend has an interesting Wakizashi which we are trying to identify. From Sayagaki we understand that this sword was a gift. Can someone please provide exact translation? Sword itself is a mystery, patina on Nakago might suggest early Edo or maybe even Koto blade. However, it looks like it was 'cleaned' a bit. Maybe someone was looking for Mei (sword is Mumei)? Any comments or suggestions are appreciated. I will try to get different/better pictures. Please share any insights, thanks!

Hi, Nice Gunto, stainless steel = less worries with maintenance = less worries with display area environment/conditions. Definitely nice option for military swords collectors. Good luck with your sell!

Hello everyone, I would like to show my new acquisition and ask for any comments. I bought Suriage Wakizashi in perfect condition and polish, attributed to Shigetsugu from Tosa. I only found two smiths (Shodai/Nidai) from that region. If you can share anything more about the smiths then I will greatly appreciate this. Thank you all for contribution to the discussion. Cheers!

Hi, Just style IMHO, sometimes buffalo horns are used (or other material) for Mekugi-Ana. You can for sure tell the age of the wood, but that will cost a lot and you need to find a lab which will do this as per commercial order.

Well ... I can see some small differences, but we need to keep in mind it is not that they were curving these Mei with laser+computer. Also, there are live examples where you could see such slight differences in Mei on two 'papered' blades, so... I'm not talking about this specific smith, but in general. Anyway, Sebastien, you will probably end up with suggestions to send the sword for Shinsa, which is reasonable.

I didn't know he changed Mei style, my bad and thank you for the lesson. Sebastien, for me Mei also looks legit, but I had same challenge with my Tadayoshi (one of mine topics) where most of comments stated Gimei.

Hi, I don't want to be sceptic, but if I'm comparing it to the right Sukehiro then Mei looks totally different. Can you show the rest of the blade? Hello, I think better pictures of blade will help. Please post more pictures of Sugata, Nakago and some close-up photos of Hamon/Hada. There are also things to look for in Koshirae, but Gunto experts will know more.

Hello, Same as Ray, I can see Boshi without Hadori but no Kaeri. But only on first picture. I'm not able to see it on other pictures, so please try to make some more as advised by Christian. For me it doesn't look like a reshaped Kissaki. Maybe you can compare Kissaki with other swords from this smith to see if there is any significant difference. It could be just lack of Hadori = Togishi fault, not yours (unless you were cleaning Kissaki with Uchigo like crazy )

@Curious Cosmos https://www.e-sword....1110_2002syousai.htm Indeed, this one looks similar. So it could be Nidai work. Don't look at Koshirae, it was probably changed. There are many topics on this forum related to sword maintenance. You can prevent blade from going further bad but I don't think you will be able to remove stains/scratches/rust with simple Uchiko/Oil maintenance. Also, please don't try to restore the blade on your own. Best is to consult it with Togishi, he should be able to advise on next steps of restoration.

Hi, If you could try taking some pictures of Hada and whole Nakago where Yasurime appears. Maybe better pictures of Kissaki, as I can't see Boshi on the one you posted. I know it is difficult to capture some of that, especially with the blade in poor polish condition like that. NBTHK papered blade from Yamashiro Daijyo Minamoto Kunishige 山城大掾源国重 looks way different. https://www.aoijapan...-minamoto-kunishige/ But that is just one example. Still, I like Sugata and Koshirae very much, so I wouldn't mind if it is a Gimei. Nice sword, just requires new polish and some love from future owner.

Hello, I must comment on that, since I don't agree. Either you don't use the knifes or you only 'cut' butter with them. I also own Japanese kitchen knifes and can say one thing, story that it won't become blunt is just a legend. Any type of knife will eventually be dull if you use it. Knifes, no matter what type of steel or craftsmanship, will need sharpening if you use them to cut things. They are not lightsabers you know. -
Hi, Without investigating blacksmiths/Mei, based on the pictures, Sugata reminds me my Echizen Seki (early Edo ~1650), I like it. However, condition of the blade is below my acceptable level. I'm not sure if it is just old polish or rust/pitting is unremovable. I love Koshirae, black & gold works very well. Mokko Gata Tsuba type is my favorite, so again, big + for that. Please share more pictures if you can.
