Morning Both, Thanks for your comments. I know, it is strange, I have been over the tsuka and nothing seems to be out of place. There is no signs of a repair, recent rebind, bodge up or anything else untoward. The spotted hole would of matched up perfectly as well ?? Regards

Hi Everyone, Hope you are all well. I have a showa period Katana signed Kanehisa and dated Showa 18 (1943). The sword has no stamps of any description on it. I would like to find out if possible which wartime Kanehisa it could be out of the several listed during that period. Another question would be the date as it only has the mei of: Showa ju hachi nen - Is this usual with no month or made by characters? Mekugi ana is in a very strange position as well and the evidence that an ana was started in the more normal position. Another thing I have noticed is that on the date picture, The characters seem to have been chiselled after the lacquer painted numbers have been applied when you zoom in on the picture, Was thing normal? Anyways, any help greatly appreciated. It would be great if I could find other two character signatures to compare with mine. All the best

The first picture and your example both have a wooden saya. I've owned something almost the same without the numbers on that fits the top end of a wooden saya. Regards
-
Hi All, Is the number for the Ashi attachment or the whole saya? Regards

Thank you Geraint, Much appreciated. I will have a proper photo session/examination this weekend and try to describe what I see. I have read somewhere that Hyuga Daijo Sadatsugu blades have an easy giveaway trait but I can not remember what it was, where and what text I read it from . Again, Many thanks All the best

Hi All, I have an NBTHK attributed Hyuga Daijo Sadatsugu Katana and I am struggling with the Boshi. It has a Choji midare hamon with bohi. Is the Boshi an Omaru, Don't think it's Jizo or Hakikake?. Just stumped on this one so any help would be greatly appreciated. All the best

HI All, I have a katana with dimensions of: nagasa - 26 7/8 Thickness at habaki - 7mm width at habaki - 30mm thickness at kissaki - 4.5mm width at kissaki - 18mm Sori - 25mm Koshi Hamon - Gunome Hada - Mokume Bohi Mei - Kaneyoshi Saku It has seen a few polishes as the thickness at the habaki is 7mm on the blade but 9mm on the thickest part of the unpolished nakago. It si very reminiscent of the slender blades often found in Kyu Gunto mounts. The post in the translation section of Polisher's mei is on this blade. So in the back of my mind I want to say Meiji period but what do you think. Your thoughts are most welcome please. Many Thanks Don't panic, the blade is not directly on the floor, It is on tissue pads.

Hi All, I have a blade with the habaki well and truly stuck on. managed to get it off only to find this: Is this a usual practice as this is the first one I have owed. Regards
-
Hi Everyone, I've had this blade for a while now and am thinking it is time to start looking into sending away for polish, shirasaya and Shinsa. Looking closely at the blade and I noticed what looks like a blister (Last picture & very hard to photograph). Now I'm thinking it is not worth the effort if it is. Nagasa - 14 3/8 motohaba - 31mm motokasane - 7mm Nakago - 4.5 inches Hamon - Suguha Hada - unknown Boshi - complete with long turnback What does everyone think? Many Thanks in advance All the best

Sword Shipping Ban in the UK
Mark C replied to Akitombo's topic in Sword Shows, Events, Community News and Legislation Issues
Sadly I believe it will get worse as we are governed by a bunch of idiots and have an ever increasing number of people who can't decide if they are Male, Female or a bloody desk lamp. Banning things is not the answer, Education is and I think the UK has passed that stage. -
Thank you both. All the best
