Shoki is consistent with other examples, however the Oni is not. They are usually leaner and have a more ferocious expression. It is also interesting that he is carrying a lantern. Here is an example from my collection: http://tosogucollection.com/2013/12/23/ ... tadatsugu/ As you can see the Oni on the reverse is very different to yours.

Robert Haynes recently looked at a photo of a fuchi/kashira that I own and said they were most likely Sendai work (copy of a Goto piece). He said the craftsman from Sendai copied lots of different schools and were quite skilled artisans in their own right. I am checking my references now for any information about the Sendai school; however I thought I might ask if anyone has already researched this topic.

Thanks Junichi. I have no idea how you got that. It looks nothing like the kanji in Haynes Index (H01868.0).

Can anyone help with the attached mei? I have tried my books and nihonto kanji pages but I can't work it out. Sorry for the quality of the photo. This is all I have. Thanks in advance for any help.

Wow. That's big money. I guess the numbers stamped into the plate don't affect value too much. Was there any provenance? If you could link the numbers to a museum or big time collector then they might actually enhance the value.

Look at the faces. You can tell the quality (or lack of) from the faces.

Made for the export market. Look at the nakago-ana in comparison to the seppa dai in number two. A little off centre lol.
