Looks perfectly fine. I don't see anyone putting a kamon on a fake one. The fake ones are pretty obvious looking. These come in all forms of quality, and even very crude ones.

The Ha and Mune machi don't line up. Pretty typical on Chinese made swords. Along with the quality and "wrongness" of everything else as Jean pointed out this doesn't look genuine at all.

Photographs Illustrating the Wearing of Japanese Guntō
Tensho replied to saemonjonosuke's topic in Military Swords of Japan
Yes, I completely agree. If I am remembering correctly most of the photos of soldiers with Wakizashi are in China. Well, I bought the photos in China at least. I think I have a few more photos somewhere... -
Any markings or stamps on the nakago? My guess is this is a zohei-to.

Unless its really hard to get gunto where you are that price is too steep. -
Thank you!

Interesting! A much nicer example. Thank you!

Thoughts on what the motif is on this tsuba? "Worm eaten" is only thing that comes to mind. Also, a similar pair I found mounted on Daisho.

Package stuck in Japan, need some help
Tensho replied to Tim Evans's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
Did EMS stop again? I had a koshirae, and 2 tsuba shipped to me without issue within the last 2 months. -
Arsenal blade also. You usually see these in Kyu-gunto mounts, likely to have had an acid etched hamon.

Can anyone re-wrap a tsuka, or recommend someone who could?
Tensho replied to bhhltf's topic in Military Swords of Japan
Maybe Cottontail Customs? I think he's accepting work again, but I'm not sure of the price? As above I don't think you will find anyone that does quality work for under $300 There were a couple who did great work for good prices but they're no longer doing tsukamaki. You seem to have at least a decent amount of the ito left. I would try and repair as much as you can. -
Also another thing I see interesting on this is it only has a Soe Naginata Hi on one side?
-
Well, like Jussi mentioned above it looks strange to me. How does the habaki fit? Here's a Naginata Naoshi of mine:

This appears to be a WWII tanto commonly carried by soldiers. Most of them have patriotic inscriptions or gimei of famous smiths.

Japanese sword, mumei, civilian mounts, WWII adaptation?
Tensho replied to Nafta's topic in Military Swords of Japan
The ha and mune machi is the first thing I noticed, but if you look at the second picture it appears fine? Perhaps a trick with the lighting and angle of the blade it was photographed? Edit: I just looked at your other photos, I am now suspicious like everyone else. Can you take a close up of the nakago with the blade pointing up with habaki removed? -
Japanese sword, mumei, civilian mounts, WWII adaptation?

Yes, thank you. I saw the "hole" by the mekugi ana and thought it may be a patch or another hole drilled. But having seen it, it looks just like damage or a missing samegawa node. The 4 seppa don't match. It really should only have 2. Perhaps this had a different tsuba at one time or thicker seppa that were removed/lost at one point? I don't see a snap button on your saya, so I doubt it had a leather seppa. If everything fits well I see no reason to belive it is all or mostly original. -

Do you have clearer photos of the tsuka? Looks like there "may be" an extra hole or its been plugged but might just be the photos. Also, 4 seppa is concerning unless this had a leather seppa with button snap at one time. Another thing to add, brass habaki really aren't all that common on older swords, but is the norm on showato. Was this purchased on ebay by chance?
