  1. Thank you all so much for your time and expertise! It is very much appreciated
  2. Dear Friends I have had this tsuba for a number of years (mounted as part of a koshirae that came with a blade I purchased). I am not a tosogu collector but am interested to know more about this piece. I would be very grateful if anyone could provide some information on the NBTHK attribution. Many thanks, Costas
  3. Thank you all very much for your replies and for the information. It is incredibly helpful. I do have an agent handling this (I'd prefer not to name them publicly). It's definitely not a communication breakdown, but perhaps there is a lag between them and their person on the ground. Hopefully the results come through soon if the certs were sent out 11th May... Thanks again to all who replied.
  4. Dear Nihonto Family. I am still waiting for a result from the December 2022 NBTHK hozon shinsa. As this is the first submission with which I have been directly involved I am not sure how normal this kind of wait is, but it feels a bit excessive. Could I please canvas a few of our more experienced members? How long is a typical wait for NBTHK shinsa results? Cheers, Costas
  5. I have had swords sent to me in Melbourne from a variety of countries including Japan. This idea that swords can't be sent to Victoria is a myth.
  6. The sword arrived today in good order. Hopefully that's of some use to those who are nervous or holding off.
  7. FYI all Aussie nihonto enthusiasts. EMS between Japan and Australia is back after way too long. I currently have a sword in transit. Happy to confirm successful receipt when it (hopefully) arrives safely if that would be of interest to anyone. Cheers, Costas
  8. Pity I didn't see this in time. I live in Melbourne. It would be good to meet if/when you come back down. Cheers, Costas.
  9. @Ray SingerI'd love a copy of the Ichimonji blade write-ups if it's not too much bother... Ko-Osafune and Soden Bizen too if you're feeling particularly generous with your time but I'd be very appreciative of whatever you can manage. Many thanks, Costas
  10. I was able to send EMS the next day without any issues, I was just hoping for the quicker delivery time of DHL. The issue is they don't know their own rules when they deal with you, accept the package and then it bounces back.
  11. Can confirm Richard. I got this back with my returned package after trying to send a tanto from Melbourne to USA. Of course things like this and the fact that EMS hasn't been operating between Japan and Australia for some time now makes collecting very challenging in Aus right now. All we can do is hope sense prevails at some point.
  12. I never met or communicated with Darcy but I read almost everything he wrote concerning nihonto and so this feels like the passing of a friend and mentor. My sincerest condolences to all who knew him.
  13. Thanks All for the replies. Very much appreciated!
  14. Thanks Brian - will do. Very reassuring!
  15. Thanks Bazza. Yes, it's definitely legit microdear. It cost about 66 AUD (~48 USD). I guess I'm just a little paranoid with this being a different version from what you usual see... I think you're probably right though. It definitely says for camera lenses on the back so I can't imagine it would be an issue.
  16. Thanks Brian. Are all microdear made equal though? Is this green "pro optic" version as safe/recommend for nihonto as the regular orange version people traditionally recommend? I only have the green one (not what I ordered but what arrived) and so can't compare their relative consistencies...
  17. Dear learned friends. I recently bought what I thought was the usual orange coloured Microdear cloth from an online store (the picture on their site clearly showed the usual orange one) but what arrived was this green one... Does anyone have any experience with using this green Microdear cloth variant? Does anyone know whether it is safe to use or should I send it back? Many thanks, Costas
