WW2 Japanese Navy KAI GUNTO HATTORI MASAHIRO
Swords replied to Swords's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
I agree don’t want to put more than it’s worth Having a takayama sword is a nice collectible And a mint blade However not worth a new scabbard And not the same unless it’s a navy So probably best to leave it as is At least it still has a navy look to it and holds the sword Thanks for your help -

Thanks to all for your help The new scabbard won’t be the same as the Navy Also more money would hurt the value when come time to sell I might get it repaired however I’m not sure if this is an original navy saya ? Steve -

Question is having a scabbard made by who? If I could find a navy one would be great but being a takayama sword would be next to impossible -
Hi I have this sword I want to put up because I can use some help with this sword I did some research about the smith and couldn’t find much information I saw one like it on the internet and was valued at over 2000 without papers This is the ist one I ever had with NBTHK Hozon documentation Does this add any value? Anyway I paid about 2400 incld EBay fees or it would have been 2000 It’s also in full polish I wanted a short sword hope I didn’t do to bad Steve

Good question The saya It’s wooden black paint I don’t know if the saya is original or replacement? It has some splitting on top front and bottom It appears it’s too thick for the saya maybe shrinkage cause this? I was thinking of gluing the splitting but if you pinch the front top of the saya It Won’t go in all the way The blade itself is beautiful takayama sword Any suggestions? -
