  3. Thanks for your response David. Some newer images below that highlight the extent of the surface pitting but I think it's starting to look a lot better after a bit of rubbing. There is evidence of the original polished surface around the seppa dai and small areas across the whole tsuba (I think this is what Richard picked on as scaling from my first images). I like this piece even in this worn state and will hopefully consolidate from any further demise.
  4. Thanks Jean and Florian, started the process of fussing with it. The tsuba on Paul's site is a very useful comparison.
  5. Thanks for replying Richard. It may be the light that I used in taking the images, too artificial, that makes it look like scaling. There is a lot of surface corrosion, the smooth areas look more blackish. I've taken another image below in natural light, unfortunately not very sunny in Scotland today!
  6. Hi, Looking for a bit of advice on this one I recently picked up. To me looks like a Tosho tsuba, possibly later Muramachi period, with I think the original hitsu ana? The design looks to be two geese through a door/window? The tsuba has a relatively even thickness of roughly 3mm, there is a very slight concave dip around the seppa dai on the omote side. It also looks to have had a polished finish originally, most of this now lost to surface corrosion, dimensions below: Height: 79mm Width: 78.5mm Mimi: 3.1mm Seppa dai: 3mm Nakago ana: 32mm x 8mm There is evidence of possibly mounting with tagane on both sides of the nakago ana, I also think there is a small tekkotsu on the rim, hopefully I've captured this in one of the images below. Would be good to hear of others views please?
  7. Hi, the image on the saya looks to be a water dragon, see tsuba below. The tsuba you show possible late edo Aizu Shoami or Mito school. Possibly autumn flowers.
  8. Hi Daniel, I would also say Kaneie style by Aizu Shoami. I have a tsuba with a very similar composition to yours. Height: 77mm Width: 71mm Mimi thk: 4.05mm Seppa dai thk: 3.5mm

    Tomotsuru tsuba

    Thanks Dale, very useful reference.
  10. Hi Mauro, Yes I see where you are coming from, old post below attributed to Aizu Shoami.
  11. Thanks Dale, butterfly seems appropriate given the flowers 😊. I wondered if the punch marks were from a specific tool on the tsuba I have, as they seem to be made from a single blow? There are slight nuances with each one.
  12. Hi, As mentioned in the Tomotsuru thread I picked up this small, what I think is Nara school, tsuba, maybe Ko or Mito? I believe the theme is autumn flowers, akakusa, with the moon over clouds. Dimensions: 62mm X 59mm 4mm at Mimi, 3.3mm at seppa dai I like the symmetrical tagane around the nakago ana.

    Tomotsuru tsuba

Hi Dale, Yes, it's the same one. I bought it second time round. I passed on it during the live auction for the very reason you say that the image was poor but having received another small Nara tsuba from the same auction, which turned out to be much better than the image projected I regretted not bidding on it. The Tomotsuru came up again on an online bidding auction from the same auctioneer a week or so later, all the items that hadn't sold first time. I put a bid in and won, happy days!!

    Tomotsuru tsuba

Hi Dale, That's useful, thanks. The reason I ask is because I picked up the tsuba below from a recent auction. The signature is faint and I wanted to compare, but not a well known documented artist.

    Tomotsuru tsuba

Good evening, I looking to see if any members have an image of Tomotsuru tsuba work, including signature? According Haynes, H 10162.0, he was the son of the sword smith Kinmichi and worked 1800 - 25. There is apparently an illustration in the Hawkshaw catalogue, lot 1241, plate 18 on page 78, but I don't have a copy of this and can't find it on-line. Any help would be appreciated.
