  9. Hi, Just a quick note to flag up an exact copy of this tsuba by Goto Tsuneharu in Ninon-To issue no.5 March 1997, published by the To-Ken Society of Great Britain. In the Tosogu section at the back, No.8, Bob Haynes did the write up for Clive Sinclaire. I am sure Clive could tell us more. The tsuba is Edo, dated around 1850. Regards David

  14. Hi All, Just to give anyone in the Uk a heads up on our new business opened in the South of England. Whilst we have traded at fairs for a number of years, we have now a base at: Hythe Antiques & Interiors 166-170 High Street Hythe Kent CT21 4AD TEL: 01303 269251 http://www.hytheantiques.co.uk Whilst we are more fittings and some parts, sageo, bags, Etc. Some swords already in stock, along with polearms and tanto Not the best time to start a new business, but it was better than forming a bank. Regards David
  15. Hi Guys, Thankyou for your help. Yes Brian, it is a WW2 Tanto/Aikuchi blade. We do not see a lot of these in England and when we do they tend to be sold as Kamikazi daggers? Whilst it is a few hundred years too new, I was interested in what was on the blade. It will end up as a P/X on an older item at the next UK fair. Regards David
  16. Hi, I have a small tanto blade, with this on the blade. Can I have some help with the translation please. Regards David
  17. Hi, Having looked at the group of Kiyomitsu, that throws up a problem. According to Cox and Shimano's "Bizen Osafune Kiyomitsu Ha", the signiture should read Bizen Kuni Ju Osafune Kiyomitsu. Was this a custom made sword or a fake? As always regards David
  18. Hi, I think I 've worked this one out, but.............just in case. Is this Bizen Kuni Ju Arimitsu ? If so , which one is it? As always Thankyou Regards David
  19. Katana on http://www.speedbid.com item no.Lot #383165 Looks like a good restoration project, depends on reserve. First time I have seen a Japanese sword on this site, knock on effect from E-Bay ban, maybe. David
  20. Hi Guys, I just brought this iron tsuba yesterday. The general dealer had "cleaned"it, but its a nice heavy one, 3ins in dia. Is it an old one? Regards David More Info: Thickness 3/16 ins, iron has a wet look, mimi very uneven.
  21. Hi, Can anybody direct me to either a publication or with this forum, on the dating of menuki by looking at the back of them. Most books on fittings show the front, but it seems to be the "bit behind" that can give more clues to its age and school. Cheers Guys David
  22. Hi, I agree that Don is the best in London, you can sit down , have a cup of tea, look at the stock and even if you do not buy anything, he is great to talk to. The other three, Hythe Antiques is very keen on tsuba prices, but it is quality over price, too many arms dealers put shin-gunto out at insane prices, just because they are Japanese. In France, I understand Robert has retired, is this correct anybody? Regards David
  23. Hi, I have noticed that it is hard to find who the dealers in Japanese swords and fittings are in areas, not only in the UK but when you travel around. It seems a good idea if a data base was built up by those in each region, that is if you want to give away your supply lines. Since I live in the South-East of England, prehaps I could start; Lanes Armoury The Lanes Brighton Sussex Hythe Antiques & Interiors 166-170 High Street Hythe Nr.Folkestone Kent Don Bayney Grays Davies Street London W1 Blunderbuss Thayer Street London W1 Can this be added to? Higo Tsuba

Brian, It has been filed out to take a large tang, the largest sword I have is big Nobukuni and that rattles around. Could that explain the loss of the punch marks? Any other way of putting a name to it or will it remain a bit of a unkown? David

    Higo Tsuba

Hi All, I have just picked up this iron tsuba. It looks like a typical Higo style tsuba, but I have not seen one with gold inlay. Is this original or added later? I thought this to be around 1750, but does the inlay make it later? Yours as always confused David http://img353.imageshack.us/img353/8581/higogx5.jpg
