  1. Hello Everyone, If buying a shinsakuto blade, which is more desirable...made from Komori iron sand or Masa iron sand? Looking forward to members opinions. Thank you, Greg
  2. Hi Philip, Welcome to the site...Good to see another Canadian joining. Answer to your question: The link to the company is correct and the Akihira I listed is from 1972. The blade Stephen linked is a good comparison with the 1972.
  3. Yes, Yuji san, is a good friend.
  4. Hello Everyone, Is there much value or current collector interest in purchasing a 1970's gendaito? Examples: 1) Katana signed Noshu-ju Kamei AKIHIRA-saku, September in the 47th year of Showa (1972) 2) Katana signed Noshu Seki-ju KANENORI kore-wo-tsukuru, Auspicious day December in the 51th year of Showa (1976) Thank you, Greg
  5. Thank you everyone and, especially Arnold. I feel this is an important topic. For example, if a blade was made by a famous swordsmith but the nakago wasn't signed, which was common practice with certain swordsmiths, is it possible and even likely that another swordsmith knowing they have a acquired a famous blade, add the famous swordsmith's signature? Wondering what other members think? Thank you, Greg
  6. Hello Everyone, I posted a thread about a possible Kunimune. What interested me the most is that a couple of replies stated that the inscription was added later, perhaps 100 plus years later. Did this occur and how often? Thank you, Greg
  7. Hello Everyone, Since, I've moved away from anything other than Edo era blades/swords, I'm a bit at a lose here. I've been contacted by someone who is looking to sell their collection of samurai blades/swords. Below is an example; Selling Katana with bohi in koshirae. Signed: "Kunimune." Fine kodogu, signed tsuba. 1250-1300 In decent polish, guaranteed against hagire. Nagasa: 67.4 cm. Sori: 1.5 cm. Moto-haba: 2.8 cm. Saki-haba: 1.7 cm. Moto-gasane: 0.6 cm. Saki-gasane: 0.3 cm. Photos attached BTW, this sword looks familiar?? Thank you, Greg
  8. Hello Everyone, Following up on another post; Regarding Chinese collectors, they are most interested (at least through my dealings) with purchasing Japanese WW2 blades/swords made in China. If anyone is looking to part with a Mantetsu, look to the Chinese. Seems strange considering many of these blades were designed to help the Japanese to conquer all of China but I get the impression that many Chinese collectors consider the blades to be "from their land" Interested in what other members think. Greg
  9. Thanks everyone...great discussion.
  10. Hello, What's up with these markings, seppa is upside down. No number stamp but has " kanji scratch marks"

  12. Hello Everyone, Looking for translation on this nakago.....was told it's Shinto era. Thank you, Greg
  13. Who pays for the cost of doing this...and about how much in yen?
  14. Thank you Hamfish. So based on your list, I should be able to purchase from Japan without any problems? Greg
  15. David, Thank you for your reply. I guess to further my question; I'm interested post 1937 gendai... Do all swords/blades from this time frame need to be registered with the Japanese Gov't before shipping overseas?
  16. Hello Everyone, I have several collector friends in Japan (who are Japanese) and whenever I bring up the topic of "I'm looking to purchase WW2ish sword" they basically prefer to move on to an earlier era. What WW2 swords from 1937 onward is legal for Japanese collectors to purchase and sell overseas without major regulations? Thank you, Greg
  17. on the blade?
  18. Do all the copper handle NCO swords have an arsenal mark next to the serial number?
  19. BTW, what would one expect to pay for a legit copper handle NCO sword in good condition with all legit matching serial numbers....$3,000US?
  20. Thank you both. Apparently, he only has the handle. So, I should watch out for the color....anything else?
  21. Hello Everyone, I've been searching the Canadian market for a copper handle NCO sword. I received a reply. The seller has only the copper handle and said they will send photos. What should I be watching out for? Cheers, Greg
  22. Thank you for your reply. Is this length typical of a wakizashi and does the length help in dating the blade?
  23. Additional photos

  25. Hello Everyone, My friend has a blade 23 3/8 cutting edge 1" wide at the habaki and 5/8 wide at the tip. Straight hamon just visible. The nakago appears to have some age and unsigned. Total length 36 3/4" . Question: What is this...doesn't seem to correspond to a wakizashi or katana in length or width?
