  1. I found this below....could it be the same (Nobukane) person? I'm thinking maybe he started in Owari then moved to Mimasaka. http://nihontoclub.com/smiths/NOB229
  2. Thanks everyone for all your help-much appreciated.
  3. Thank you for your responses. Are these 1944-1945? I'm somewhat confused. I understand late WW2 Shin Gunto were made to represent ito wrapping but some were made in the late 1930's..is this correct?
  4. Malcolm, Thank you for your reply. I usually buy late 1930's-early 1940's Shin Gunto. I have been told to be very careful purchasing after 1943. But....these look interesting...any advise is appreciated.
  5. Why would a WW2 fuchi pin be on top of the nakago to hold the scabbard together and not on the side?

  7. BYW, I found this; http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/Lot/a-sakushu-takada-katana-with-koshirae-mei-1043390-details.aspx My blade is in gunto mounts, so obviously less expensive but seems like an important swordsmith...maybe.
  8. I received this information The sword signature is Saku shu Takada ju Nobukane. 作州高田住信包 He may be a sword smith in Owari. We can find his name in sword dictionary. He was active in and around Late Edo period about 160 years old. He moved from Owari to Mimasaka(Saku shu) and Suo province. Anyone know who this swordsmith is...and his ranking among swordsmiths?
  9. Wow, I double checked the first character and it appears to have the 3 stroke marks...amazing on your part.
  10. Looking at the first character 作, could it be different. It appears not to have the three strokes marks on the right kanji....looks like the stroke goes straight down..what do you think and if so what does this kanji then say?
  11. Thank you for your assistance. Yes, a puzzle. I have spoken to a couple of collectors and they also agree it's Nobukane, probably a gendaito swordsmith but perhaps earlier. The question (puzzle) is where and when it was made (and who is this Nobukane?)
  12. Hello, I have attached some photos for translation. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
