  1. -Thanks Tokashikibob!!! I use my own concoction of different things to age the samegawa, but coffee is not one of them PM if you want more detail on the process -At the Tampa show it failed Shinsa due to the saiha, I have the paper from them still. I'll have pictures of the nakago and measurements in just a short while after I finish my morning coffee Thanks, Sal
  2. If you appreciate value this is one you don't want to let pass by. This is a mumei Wakizashi, it has a mizukage or re tempering. Off the bat I will be loosing money on this. The blade has what is called a mizukage or retempering that was done on it at some point. Might have been done right after it was made by the original smith who wasn't happy with the hamon or possibly done later on due to a fire. When I got this blade it was covered in a haze or rust and in WW2 mounts. Had a fresh polish put on it, and I had Wally Hostetter redo the saya, and boy did he do an amazing job; Black with gold stripes, with silver dust in the black. I told him I wanted the black to mimic the night sky with stars off in the distance, he nailed it!. I made the new tsuka for it, used left over grade #1 namikawa skin from a past project and antiqued it so it would look more age appropriate and also made a new tsuba from buffalo horn based off the shape of the military tsuba it was found in, used a fuchi and kashira that I had listed on here but had not sold, and menuki from an old beat up tsuka and put together a very nice mount to try and pay respects to the blade the best I could. I didn't have the heart to leave a blade that was still so beautiful go unfinished, I had to see this one through. Now I know I am going to loose money on this because of the mizukage, fortunately enough I have the skills and was able to do the rest of the mount myself and saved money there. I paid $300 for the blade, $900 for polish, $450 to have the original shirasaya re-done, and give or take about $275 for koshirae, that's a total of $1925 into this. Here is a link to more pictures, i forgot to take photos of the nakago, by the time i remembered it was dark out, the blade is mumei and ubu (other than mizukage) and I can get some more pictures soon of the nakago and post some measurements as well tomorrow imageshack.com/a/ynPM/1 Price is $1,500 shipped OBO (Price is VERY negotiable) Considering you can't come close to that kind of price even with a newly made custom blade in this same condition, I think this is one heck of a sweet deal. I have a car I would like to purchase this week, IF you like this make me an offer, no reasonable offer will be refused, the faster this sale the better, I'm prepared to loose money already If you have any interest please let me know, Thanks, Sal
  3. Thanks Steve! Did the kunihide have an arsenal stamp associated with his work? Thanks, Sal
  4. Just won this at a local auction and took a few quick photos of it while I was at the shop. No visible arsenal stamp, appears to be water tempered, and overall is in pretty good condition. Here are the pictures that I took that you can actually see anything Hamon appears to be suguha also, just couldn't get photos of it :/ Would deff love to know who made this to see if I should have a touch up polish done or to keep it as is for collects to admire in it's current state. Thanks in advance for any and all help! Sal
  5. Thanks guys! the f/k set look much better in person, my photo/camera skills seem to capture more flaws than really show they beauty and smoothness of the art that can be seen Sal'
  6. Some very nice fittings I just acquired in trade by a customer (one I feel who is just about becoming a good friend) and I would love to get the mei translated. Very lovely iron tsuba and what seems to be a soft metal fuchi and kashira. Also any info on the school of the f/k would be helpful as well Thanks in advance for any and all help Gentleman! Sal'
  7. Very nice! I'm glad this worked out for you! Sal'
  8. I think he sees a traditional mount sword and has fallen for the look It happens to me alllll the time. I prefer the look of non war time mounted blades and therefore I see more quality and attach more value to the ones in civilian mounts myself. I know this is not the correct way to see things for soooo many reasons as I spend more time collecting. I almost pulled the trigger the other day on a war time oil temper blade in ww2 metal saya only because someone basically just threw on a much older tsuka that I happen to like :D Sal'

  13. Hello folks, This Shinto tanto is now back up for sale on here officially! Asking price lowered to $2,300 USD shipped CONUS Partial trades are welcome, wouldn't mind project blades as long as blades are restore-able/polish-able or even american made blades or high end production blades, Just so long as there is about $1,000 cash down I will probably be happy. Payment plans are always welcome as well, deposit of $1000 down, and we can arrange payments as you like. I offer a 3 day examination period to guarantee blade is as described and that there are no fatal flaws. In the absence of an issue with the blade or fittings, all sales are final Thanks guys, Sal'
  14. I had a reserve on them, but even so, the reserves were pretty darn low, i think off hand they were between 80-120 at most for the reserves. If I can I will just offer whats left on here again, have to see what my options are to pull the rest of what didnt sell out Sal
  15. Sure did, Gendaito sold today. The tanto however did not so it will either go again at their next auction or I will potentially have it available on here again. I will find out on monday what my options are, I was not thrilled with the poor quality pictures they used or how long it took them to finally put it up for auction. Thanks,. Sal
