Aged repro to me.
-
Another good product is the Nivea cream. Works well on aged leather, with no blackening effect.
-
My humble addition to this topic. Long wakizashi (57 cm) in wooden saya, leather covered, brass koiguchi. Notice the peculiar style of press studs.
-
Yes, I can validate. Reliable seller 👍 Again, congrats for your gorgeous kai.
-
Very, very nice! By the chance, did you get it from an Italian guy?

Hoping my sword falls in this category, here we have a mumei Uda blade, in an early 98 koshirae (perhaps from Kakenu shop).
-
Another interesting point: the same is in full wrap style. The seam is roughly at 11 o' clock (mune side).
-
About the ito wrapping, I noticed that all the tsuka posted here have the criss-cross pattern just over the menuki done in the kai gunto style. It would seem an hallmark of this maker.
-
Hi Trystan; do you have a pic of the nakago ana area of this tsuka? Maybe the same maker?
-
Hi Bryce; no, the habaki hasn't any stamp. It's a siver-foiled one, and I think is older than koshirae. The blade is actually pretty old: a mumei Uda that I will post soon.
-
Thanks, invaluable infos 🙌

Hi all; I resurrect this aged post because (thanks to Steve) I stumbled across this very same maker's signature on my 98 koshirae. Also some features are superimposable (i.e. silver push button/chuso). Only difference is that the numbers on metal parts are in western style. Hope this would add something.

Hi to you all; is it possible to have those writing on a gunto tsuka translated? The ones in red should be 484, but the ones in black? Thanks!

Request for Comments on a Late War Japanese Sword?
Navy replied to drac2k's topic in Military Swords of Japan
WW2 katana yes, the fittings are mixed: tsuka is army, with an unusual kabuto gane, while tsuba, seppa (maybe fuchi) and saya's ashi navy. -
I would like to hear your opinion on gunto with showa stamp
Navy replied to Rawa's topic in Military Swords of Japan
Judging by the dark spots on top of hamon, to me this one is oil quenched, thus falling in the non- traditional made category, lacking the water quenching requirement. -
Thank you guys, very informative inputs 🙌
-
Thanks gentlemen, so nothing added to the blade description 👍 Below the pic of the whole paper, which in some way I have been able to translate.
-
Hi all; would you please help me translating this hozon paper cover? The 1st left column should be the Nbthk designation, but others? Thanks in advance.
-
Hi, the torokusho should be issued only to traditional made blade (I underline should), so good to have one: it confirms the old appearance of your sword (not the quality/condition of it). About the nakago, never seen one like this, really odd.
-
Seems an old blade fitted in a gunto koshirae. If so, with 5 (at least) mekugi ana, she should have had a busy past... Maybe is just the pic, but the nakago appears to have an odd size/shape compared to the blade. Can you post a pic without tsuba and habaki?
