  5. " the blade is is good shape, but is stained with what i believe is blood and received a massive shock which created a hagire (too bad!!!!!!!!!!!) " unless $ is no object ( 3k + or - a few hundreds ), then have it polished and get to enjoy the hada, hamon etc. Otherwise leave it the way it is and what a story one can weave, blood, gore and all. milt the ronin
  6. the fact that it is " HARD " to pass shinsa makes it meaningful. Afterall, if every Joe/Jane Blows can get into Harvard , then what's the big deal ? And Harvard does reject lots of worthy candidates too .............. just my usual warped sense of humor milt the ronin

  17. many years ago, I had a katana in gunto mount with exactly the same hamon ( vines like, some call it Satsuma style ). Had it Polished and a " blister developed " so i sold it................ It is NOT a Chinese/Pakistani/Indonesian repro. milt the ronin
  18. sorry to hijack the thread, Mantis.............. http://www.esnips.com/web/tsuba?docsPage=1#files Was hoping for a daisho but most likely these two will be labeled as matching pair. Interesting how the identical design can bring out different " feel "............the right one is slightly larger with smaller kiku. Appears " older " too. Take a look see if so inclined. milt the ronin
  19. seen it before somewhere but not sure about the school........doesn't look Shoami to me but then if it's not something else then it must be a Shoami. there's bones on the mimi. milt the ronin

  21. " Anyhow, I do what I was told by those Japanese collectors - and one Shiroganeshi -who are more knowledgeable than me, and use clear nail polish on the tarnishing prone parts. It doesn't do any permanent harm, i.e. is easily enough removed when so desired without any residue, and you have a hard time detecting it. Heck, I even got Tsuba through NBTHK Shinsa that had nail polish Fukurin without them minding (or maybe even not seeing?) it. " I must try that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! milt the ronin
  22. polishing the silver is no big deal............. if overdone, leave it alone for a few months and the patina will ' repair " itself. milt the ronin
  23. ye all, from what I understand, the block of rooms are sold out at the special show rate and the hotel would not assign more rooms to Marc.......... still, at 129, it's like the room rate at Tampa show............ see you all there. milt the ronin
  24. ye all, just let you know that the block of rooms at the special rate are sold out !! Book the rooms now if you still want the " reasonable " rate at 129 + tax before you wind up in the presidential suite at 159+....................... milt the ronin
