I have a few but just picked up this Echizen Kinai piece recently. I like the concave petals.

This is not my piece and while I know it is Choshu the Google image translate is useless in reading the signature. Any help would be appreciated.

Jean my bad. I corrected my error. I already have the Sano Museum book. Was wondering about this new Akasaka book.

I keep seeing this book show up on ebay but can't seem to find it anywhere else. Not sure if it is new or just new to me. I don't mind paying for books, but the price seems high and I am unsure if there is any new information compared to the Sano museum book on Akasaka tsuba. Anyone have the book shown below or know where to get it for a reasonable price? Thanks, Lou

A word of continued caution. A prominent Japanese dealer warned me that even with the proper tariff code, Japanese export documents, and antique attestation it is still up to the judgment of the customs officer reviewing the package. I have had one tsuba arrive without tariffs applied and one that did. Both arrived in the US in the past two months and shipped out well after the August change. Fingers crossed for the next one that is on the way.

Not sure if there will be any swords as they haven't had the show for a few years. I will be setup there with iron tsuba. Trying to thin out the collection after 25 years of collecting. If you live in Southern New England stop by. Venue Hilton Mystic 20 Coogan Blvd Mystic, CT 06355 United States + Google Map Mystic Knife show March 7-8th 2026 – NCCA

I have had this one for over 30 years. Way back when I started collecting and knew nothing. Now I have many books and tsuba and still know nothing.

Looks good. I hope the site gains popularity and more sellers.

Thank you very much.

Yes but does the page say anything about the age of the piece?

I found this on the web years ago but I have no idea what book this came from and I would be very interested to know what it says. My interest is that I have a cast tsuba that I believe is the same as the one represented here. I believe it wss either made for export or it is moderen and I hope this page can answer that question. I know it is not the best image but maybe somebody will recognize the book it came from. Thanks in advance.

Size: 76.35 x 75.92 mm by 5.5-6 mm thick. Thickness varies slightly through the entire plate. Yes I did notice the bird and flower in the tree branch. I'm not knocking 4th or 5th generation. I like all smiths from the school. I'm just trying to understand how to tell at what point in the school it was made. Please educate me. Thanks.

Here are two quick pictures. I would have thought it was earlier than 4th master but I'm still learning. Thanks for looking.

I don't read Japanese and I have in my notes that this piece is attributed to the second hereditary master. Does this paper make any mention of that or does it just attribute it to the Akasaka school? Thanks.

I think it is not old enough to be ko shoami but it could be shoami. I think all the damage gives the sense of the piece being older but I don't think it is pre edo. As for the theme it is a torii, cedar trees, and a string. It is described in Japanese at that website but using yahoo bablefish to translate doesn't make complete sense. If I understand the translation it almost sounds like marrriage and the wife keeping tabs on the husband via the string. That sounds about right. Take all of this with a grain of salt, I'm still learning but maybe it will get the discussion going. http://www.finesword.co.jp/sale/kodougu ... 7/1195.htm

Thanks for the comments. It was just a general question. I have seen a few pieces in person that the color seemed a bit off but I was just wondering if it was my untrained eyes or possibly repatination. The rust in the web is a good area to look at.
